Bill is a wonderful professor. the astronomy class he teaches is extremely simple. he makes it engaging and a lot of fun. no tests in the class, but he makes us read funny books and we get nightly chapter assignments. very stress free and he genuinely cares about his students and the topics he teaches. very different from his physics classes.

Phys 2 was much easier than phys 1 imo, more formulas and less intuition. He does a better job teaching it as well. An easy physics class to take considering you never compute anything with calculus--like you should be for a calc-based phys course. I feel like I have a solid understanding of general phys ideas though. Just study his class notes.

He starts class with"I try to talk less and less each semester": plan to teach yourself outside of class. IMO, to be successful know the material mostly before class and expect to do a couple of problems IC. Best test prep is the qs at the end of the ch(he posts step by step sols)that is where ALL tested qs come from. 1 hella long writing req.

Don't fool yourself into thinking Physics is easy, because it's NOT, it's HARD. Dr. Schmidt is a great professor and he spends class time trying to help us understand the concepts rather than do practice problems -- be prepared to spend time doing practice problems on your own. I think he wastes time sometimes but he's a good teacher. Study hard.

Took him at NCSU during the summer. Really great guy. Super nice, jokes around. He was using a new textbook so it could get rocky, but I still learned a lot. Practice tests are pretty representative of actual tests. Really not hard to do well if you even try.

Horrible at teaching. Class time is spent just on theory questions that aren't on the test. Tests are extremely hard and almost impossible to study for. He posts practice questions online and only a very few are actually on the test or similar to other questions. Be prepared to teach yourself. This class could easily be taught online.

this is a terribly hard class, but hey, it's physics. quit complaining and actually study. Dr. Schmidt is the cutest smartest nicest best professor I've ever had and he can teach just fine. Just pay attention in class, read your book, and you'll be fine.

He is really nice. Just that his teaching can lull my friends to sleep. Plus, the practice tests have like 1 or 2 questions that are on the actual test. The other questions are like pulled out of a hat (not literally). >.> upset that I didn't get an A. He does email the notes discussed in class though.

I took a summer class with him at NCSU and he was horrible. He did not respond well when problems were not solved "his" way. Do not take a class with this guy!!!! Practice test are worthless.

Dr. Schmidt is a great professor. He goes over concepts in class, does example problems, let you work in groups, gives a take-home portion for tests, and is really invested in your learning. I've spoken with students who have taken the same course at state and let me say, we have it EASY! He makes PHY very accessible and is funny to boot!

He makes every effort he can to help you. He relies on his students to read the textbook on their own, sometimes not covering the material in class. Some get frustrated by that, but with initiative, you will get a lot out of his class

Very nice guy in person but horrible at teaching anything. Can't even answer simple questions he ought to know. He's an idiot because he copies the book word for word and can't live without his notes which are copied from the book.

WORST teacher I've had at Meredith in all 4 years. Incredibly unaccommodating, can NOT explain the concepts, CANT answer your questions- he'll talk his way around them, terrible sense of humor, tests are not on material he teaches because he cant really teach, learned more from the bk then from him, not sure why Meredith still has him teaching

Is a nice man, but not a good teacher at all. Is very unclear and cannot answer your questions-will usually tip-toe around them without ever giving an answer. Gives practice tests, but actual tests are much harder! Would not recommend!

HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! Very kind person but cannot teach material at all and tests are unfair and practically impossible. Physics is a hard subject but he makes much more difficult and grades harshly. I strongly disliked his class and I do NOT recommend taking him.

Great guy- like someone else said, if you show a little respect and drop by his office he is the nicest professor I have ever had. Class is hard (it is physics... ) but with the extra papers and homeworks it is not too difficult to score in the A-B range. Lab is pretty straighforward. I have no idea why half the class isn't passing- he is fine.

GREAT PROFESSOR! Physics is not an easy topic, but Dr. Schmidt makes it fun and interesting. He's cute, funny, and is so much fun to talk to outside of class. When you go to him for help, he is friendly and helpful. He's a goofball and responds really well to his students, as long as they stay committed and respectful. Highly recommended!!!!!!

TERRIBLE TEACHER. yeah sure he is a nice guy but he can not teach the material to save his life. he takes off random points on tests and when you think it is only worth 1 point off it is really worth 5 points off. he isn't very helpful when you ask him questions and he can't explain stuff. Sure he is nice, but does it matter if you are failing?
