She is very pretentious, & a very hard teacher. Tests are HARD, and she rushes you through it. You must see six shows which is a bit much if u also work. She gives good notes, but no study guide and there is a lot of reading that is on the test. But I will say she loves music and is passionate about it, so take her if you are a music maj

Fast track- 9 days, 5 hrs/day. Long class, tuff to sit thru combo of 4+ hrs of lect/film, but enjoyed the class! Not a fan of classical music but now I find it's not so bad. She loves music & is EXTREMELY knowledgable. Tests were a breeze, gives study guide & most of tests were directly from it. Take good notes & study them & guide for easy A!!

9 day Intersession: We had a test almost every morning. Very easy, just read study guide. One 3 page paper due and a final. She paid for us to go to a concert instead of final. Beware: she said regular semester must go to 6 concerts (you pay). Very nice lady.

WARNING! WARNING! Don't ever take her class! Unless you are a music major you should bring a pillow to class. She feels that music is the most important topic in the world. Her tests are a mystery to figure out. This was supposed to be a music appreciation class, because of her I no longer appreciate music.

dont EVERRRRRR take her class. dont even think the thought of taking this class. its got to be the hardest, most time consuming class ive ever taken. she's been teaching music for over 28 years, yet she doesnt seem to realize that nobody in the class is a music major. GOD i hated this class. u have to PAY for six concerts then write 3 essays on it

Dr. Montiel is one of the most inspiring professors I have ever taken. She is amazing and shares the most interesting of personal experiences (all about music). I learned so much and have retained it. I am not a music major, but learned that I love the symphony. I would recomend this class to anyone who wants to LEARN about musics origins. Loved it

I learned a lot in her class, and she was pretty nice. It was really hard to know exactly what she wanted for the essay questions on the tests. Subjectivity made it frustrating. The course wasnt what I had expected, but it turned out ok. She gives study guides, and follows them pretty closely.
