Unfortunately this class is not one many can avoid in this department. Even for those who care and try, you will be answered with cynicism and unhelpfulness. Assignments are graded on the material before it is taught. The "grading" is not helpful and usually consists of illegible handwriting and random circles on the page with no explanation...

Won't teach you the material that you're being tested on. When you ask a question, he won't answer it. He'll just make you feel stupid for asking it. He grades males better than he grades females. Instead of providing good feedback, he'll just put a question mark on your work. If you go to follow up with him, he'll just make you feel stupid.

The absolute best music teacher at SDSU. Has high expectations of the students and doesn't tolerate slackers but, if you work hard, you WILL get an A. One of the most knowledgable people I have ever met. Incredible skill and talent. If you are ready to learn, he is the best choice for you.

Has a lot of insight and tends to go on tangents a lot. He knows his stuff, but doesn't always necessarily express everything in a comprehensable manner. He's a really nice guy, and is more than willing to help when asked. However, I feel like I could've learned more.

I just don't understand why everyone likes this guy so much. I had him for 3 semesters in a row, and became so frustrated with him and his egotistical ways that I started going to class once a week just to check in, and taught myself the material! You cannot rely on him to teach you the material - you must be able to teach it to yourself! Good luck

The Information he gives is important and to the point. Everything I learned in his theory classes were instrumental in my success in Graduate School. His methods of drilling information into you are at times tedious, but it is stuff you will be EXPECTED to know in music otherwise you will not be taken as a seriously by your peers.

Great class. He makes it easy to understand, unless youre a dick-off in the back of the room who doesnt pay attention and writes the wrong compositions even though he went over it 8 trillion times. If you like to ask dumb questions, avoid like the plague!

There is something seriously wrong with a grown man who has to make students feel small so that he can feel big. He seems to delight in belittling students at every opportunity. He is a composer of amazingly limited talent. I did not like this man at all.
