Brent is a landscape photographer. That is all. He has incredible technical knowledge, but no interest or proficiency in concept. He gives thinly masked preference to students who produce work similar to his own. And I think if I hear one more thing about Lewis and Clark I will go batty.

Brent was my favorite art instructor at UNT. He is knowledgable, and he is fair. Photo students are lucky that he is still teaching.

i think he gets a kick out of berating students in front of other students. he often insulted my work, and if i'd believed him, i'd never have gone on to be the professional photographer i am today.

Brent likes what he likes- images that remind him of work he would do himself- landscapes. Just because he is a working artist doesn't make him a great teacher. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't care about his students.

Brent is a highly skilled and professional instructor who will not hesitate to answer any technical question you may have. He is a working artist, and his time is valubale, in other words, he's a busy man. He's straight and to the point. If you don't know your photo stuff, don't take the class.

Brent is a good instructor. He may get tired of the mostly brain dead students that have no idea of conceptual depth that result in dry crit sessions--- its hard teaching fine arts to a class that anyone regardless of talent can enroll in.

The key to passing Mr. Phelp's courses with an A is learning to BS and kiss up to him. If you can make up elaborate stories and bake him cookies, you'll have an A.
