Prof. Mizelle is an excellent professor! I have taken his course last summer and it was amazing. Probably one of the best teachers in American Studies. We spent half our class time watching old Hollywood movies On the last day did an LA Tour. Really awesome guy and humorous.

A really chill guy and easy to talk to. His lectures do get kind of boring, but the topics are relevant. No tests or quizzes, but expect 3 short essay questions and 2 essays. For the short essay questions, you're chosen at random 3 times throughout the semester to turn it in at the end of class but then you don't have to answer them after the 3rd.

He really cares about his students and wants us to succeed. Brought in a lot of guest speakers and watched videos in class to keep things interesting. Also no tests!!! Just a couple essays and in class writings. Really easygoing class. Would definitely take it again!

Brett has some interesting lectures, but it can get a little boring. The topics in class are interesting and really relevant to right now. He picks people randomly to turn in writing assignments so that makes attendance mandatory sometimes. I made it through without the books, but had to look up the books online. Theres a few papers but he is an ea

He is such a cool professor! No finals, just quite a lot of readings. 3 papers and 3-in class writings based on that week's readings. He shows funny videos of his favorite movies and whatever pertains to the material. No weekly journals from what the older ratings say. He's super easy to talk to and incredibly knowledgeable. TAKE HIM! He's amazing.

He is pretty casual in his lectures and he seems passionate about what he's teaching which makes his class interesting. He gives a few essays and is a fairly easy grader. Don't miss class because he randomly draws names to turn in their in-class writings and if you're not there you'll get a zero.

I had such a great time in Brett's class! Lots of reading but you'll get used to it, usually articles that he posts on Beachboard. NO EXAMS OR QUIZ! Loves people who participate too. If you get the opportunity to take his class, do it! A few reading books to purchase but they're small and good reads.

I've taken a few of his courses and have loved them! He is one of the most influential and intelligent professors that I have encountered in the History Dept. He cares about the content and about his students. You have to put in the work (Read) in order to make the most of his lectures but it is worth it. also, a total fox.

Dr. Mizelle makes the class an enjoyable learning experience. He is really laid-back and always available if you need help. However, he does assign lots of papers. 6 papers & one presentation. Papers are challenging. Overall great professor!

Great teacher and really cares about his students! He was always very helpful and honestly if you try, do the readings, put any effort into the papers, show up to class and participate you will get an A! This class changes and helps you understand animals and how they interact with humans. I learned things that impact my everyday life.

I absolutely loved this class. It changed my life no joke. This course makes you examine the human-nonhuman animal relationship in context with American Culture. The books are interesting, as was the project at the end of the semester. Mizelle is funny, charming, & knowledgeable. Lectures were always interesting, & we also watched a lot of videos.

Dr. Mizelle is the reason I made it through. I wouldn't have gotten this close to graduation without him. A lot of professors don't get to know you as a person like he does. Any time you can email him, and he's there for you. Don't be mistaken Mizelle is the real deal.

Dr. Mizelle if by far one of the best instructors, if not the best instructor CSULB has to offer. I loved his 477-B class because he keeps the class entertaining. All you have to do for the class is 8 of the 10 weekly 1 page journals and two 5-7 page essays. If you love American Culture, this is the class for you!

Thinks of himself as "hip" but really sort of self-absorped. "Laidback" really means lazy and unprepared.
