Comment:

Decent class- I learned a decent bit and it wasn't hard. Just pay attention to the lectures. You get to choose a field trip to go on and it's for attendance the the trip itself was pretty neat. Tests were average and there was only one or two papers we had to do and he graded them fairly. The end of the semester there was a BBQ which was cool.

AMST 100 was the best class I have taken. Dr. Black is so creative with his presentationslectures. His assignments are not difficult. They are actually fun. He is very approachable and engaging. He really wants you to interact and have fun with it. Attend class because he covers a lot of material! Easy class and fun!

Do not take any of his classes! His method of teaching is to have you read three books and write reactions to them. The reactions must be very specific and detailed. In general he is very obscure. Unless you already know everything there is to know about history, you will not do well in this class

Comment:

Great teacher! He really knows his stuff,tries to make class interesting. He certainly doesn't merit poor markings, even by those who can't do well in his classes. He does many community activities too and tries to get students involved in them as well. He offer 5-6 extra credit opportunities that can really bring your grade up. Highly recommended!

He has the worst grading system in the history of normal people who teaches any class... He grades too hard, and he expects u to kno alot of info; he only asks about 2% of the questions put on the study guide. If u want a smooth ride for a GEN ED, dont, i repeat DON'T take this class with this guy!

Test and study guides are crazzzzzy hard. He gives a crazy amount of info on study guides that you HAVE to know because there it may be on the test. For example 40 essay questions on the study guide and you have ot know the answers to ALL of them because there will be two random ones on the test.

horrible professor, DO NOT RECOMMEND! Cancel's class frequently, but expects you to do work on those days. Requires you to read an insane amount each week, grades really hard. For our midterm we were given a study guide- it consisted of 135 terms only 20-25 of which would be on the midterm and 37 essays and only 2 of those were on it not helpful

What a great class and great prof. Gives 3 essays that are straightforward. Midterm and final are same format-mutiple choice w essays. Essays on exmas are easy. Attendence required Only bad thing about class is battlefield journal...don't wait until last minute to do..is suposed to be done over course. Very helpful teacher. Definatly recommend!

Dr. Black was a good teacher, but I have no interest in environmental history as far as gettysburg is concer. he gave out alot of materials to read, and trust me YOU MUST READ THEM because you need it for your final paper, the only mistake i did was not read the handouts. But he is a cool teacher!
