Worst professor I have ever had, only talks to people in the first row and skips a TON of material. Tests are very confusing and he does not give any sort of extra study material even if the entire class is doing poorly. FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR

Comment:

Awful professor. Very lazy and does the bare minimum to ensure students being prepared for exams. Only converses with people in the first few rows which leads to him skipping material that ends up on the exams. Unless you're very lucky guessing on exams I strongly recommend not taking any class that he teaches.

Dr. Patterson is a nice enough guy, but he is not a fantastic professor. He tells stories and has conversations for hours instead of covering material, skips material that ends up being on the exams, and is one of the most unorganized professors I've ever had. If you want more than an easy B (unless you're a fantastic guesser), take somebody else.

Don't expect to learn a single thing, let alone even know whats going on in this class. Be expected to show up, watch a movie for 4 hours, take a quiz, and not hear a single thing come out of this guys mouth. I swear the only class I heard him talk was syllabus day. Don't expect any returned emails either.

Dr. Patterson was by far the worst professor I've had. He was extremely condescending towards the students. He NEVER answered any email I sent to him the ENTIRE SEMESTER, never adhered to the syllabus, and was constantly changing the requirements. NEVER recommend to anyone, even Hitler or Bin Laden, to take Dr. Patterson-that's how bad he is!

It is a good class. I took it when it we watched Gangster films. It is not an easy class. There are quizzes on every movie based off his lecture and imdb website. He puts questions on the quizzes that trick you. Only 1 paper but it is graded horribly. Don't take this if you're looking for an easy class. Very easy to fail it.

Took this guy for Comm 305, movie class, a discussion based class. I expected a discussion based class and got absolutely no discussions. He actually talked in 3 classes but still for like 30 min and not even about any of the movies. The class is only made up of one paper that he grades awfully and an ecampus quiz for each movie that is hard!

At 1st I thought this class would be great, but I was wrong. He is funny, but just rambles on about the same stories. He does none of the grading, so his idea of what an assignment is, and the grades have a huge disconnect. No attendance ever ( even tho the syllabus says so) Do not need book. 3 tests (only 2 reviews) and 2 papers.

He's okay but if you have another option, take it. He's the worst communicator on the face of the planet, especially if you really need answered soon. Extremely sarcastic, and not in a funny way. He can be funny in class when he talks but he barely talked in this class. Quizzes were sometimes confusing and one bad quiz grade can drop your grade.

He has a great personality. Very nice and funny. But his lectures are boring and he doesn't do a good job with relaying his lectures to his students. He sits in the front of the class and clicks on his laptop and basically have a conversation with students. His lectures are so relaxed but his exams are from HELL. dr. patt is a great guy and was helpful throughout the summer even after shattering his leg. i would gladly take a class with him again whether it is online or in the classroom. oh. and if he doesn't reply to emails it's because you aren't sending them to the right email address. read the syllabus and you'll understand how to communicate with him.

He seems to be a really nice teacher his teaching style is very interesting keeps the students from dosing off. He doesn't really bother replying to emails which is really annoying because you have to go to his office hours an tell him yourself. His test are tricky i cant seem to get a A on any of them.

The class was easy and all. Easy to get either an A or B. Class was based on 2 papers and 3 exams. Dr. Patterson knows his stuff, however, do not expect a reply to any email you send him; no matter if it's a small or big issue. Best bet is to just go to his office hours. I would still recommend him though since he's good at teaching the subject.

Don't bother with him if you want your emails answered. He was rude to students who came up to him and asked the questions they emailed him that he never answered. He even left class a few times while a movie was playing and didn't return for a while. Sometimes gives extra credit in class and bases some quiz questions on his lectures.

Great guy, I enjoyed taking his 308 class. His exams were pretty routine as long as you showed up and listened to what he had to say. Additionally, hes hilarious and knows what he is talking about. I would take him again.

Absolutely terrible class. He never lectured about a communication theory (or anything for the matter) and then expected us to use communication theories in our after-project reports. He is extremely unorganized and never responds to emails. He is also terrible at giving you guidelines for your projects. I should have never taken this class.

He did NOT teach us everything we needed to know. Everyone I talked to/emailed agreed that they had never seen half of the information on the final. He is NOT helpful at all. He never responded to my emails and always seems like he's in a rush just to get out of class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.

I took Dr. Patterson in the fall of 2010. he is a good teacher but doesnt seem to care about his students. I emailed him three or four times throughout the semester and never heard back from him. also he doesnt write the tests which makes them difficult to study for. Sure he is funny but that doesnt help with the tests.my advice read the book.
