Comment:

Scholtens is a great person and a amazing scientist. He is able to give the information in a way that everyone can understand. While his test are a little bit difficult (completely short answer) he gives A TON of extra credit on the tests (sometimes 15 points). He wants you to do well in his class and holds a final exam study session.

Comment:

Scholtens is a really great guy and I enjoyed having him but the way he runs class is very hard to follow. His lectures jump around and tests are all short answer. Never really know where to start studying. If you take him I'd recommend seeing him outside of class for help.

I loved having Dr. Scholtens as a professor! He explained things very well and made class very entertaining. There are no quizzes, no homework, four tests, and a final exam. He posts the lectures online so you have them for reference. I highly recommend him! The textbook is a huge help also!

Dr. Scholtens is one of the best professors I've ever had. He really, really cares about your success. His tests come straight from his notes. But you definitely have to be prepared to study. He's a very picky grader, but is definitely willing to work with you. Very fair and very reasonable.

Dr. Scholtens is such a great professor! He loves everything he teaches and really tries to get students to see science the way he sees it. The tests are straightforward if you ask questions in class and pay attention. No attendance policy but would highly recommend going! You probably won't get out of class early because he loves to tell stories!

Dr. Scholtens is the best professor of any kind I have ever seen in 3 years of college classes. He is clear, interesting, relevant, and personable. He is careful to let students be and does not manipulate, i.e. lets you put into the class what you want. He is an extraordinary scientist and a phenomenal person.

Dr. Scholtens is an awesome teacher. He's so passionate about entomology. There are 3 tests, 5 lab quizzes (drops the lowest), a group project, a collection grade (insects collected from lab), a lab final, and a lecture final. He's not a hard grader, and his tests aren't too difficult. Highly recommend.

Dr. Scholtens is an easy going guy. His class consists of a powerpoint lecture and a few discussions. They are actually interesting and I enjoyed this class. His tests are all essay and beware of the picture labeling. It was a challenging class for me but I enojyed it!

Honestly, I took AP Bio in high school and I should have never signed up for this class. If you're a bio major, take my warning. Anyways, Scholtens is interesting but pauses way too much between words. It's annoying. He is a nice guy though. Overall, I really liked him and the class. If you HAVE to take bio 112, I would highly recommend him!

I don't know how some students don't get an A in his class. He's intelligent, helpful, an amazing professor, crystal clear, and so willing to help students. His lectures are fascinating and I looked forward to attending every one. TAKE HIS CLASS.

The sweetest man ever! Dr. Scholtens loves what he does and it shows. He's very easy to talk to and is happy to answer as many questions as you care to ask him, whether it's about the current topic in class or advice about school/career plans. He makes class interesting and fun, and I can't recommend taking him enthusiastically enough!

For Bio lab, you will never see him. TAs teach the labs, which would be OK if they had any direction and knew what they were doing.Lab manual stinks and is way more expensive than Chem or Phy.Labs are constantly out of materials or provide broken/dirty equipment.No one knew how to run the practical.Complete joke compared to Chem and Physics labs.

Hands down the best teacher I have ever had. And probably one of the most intelligent men I have ever had the honor to learn from. He explains the material in such a manner that you simply UNDERSTAND what is going on, which is crucial especially in biology. And he makes the class interesting. if you can, DO take him!

Amazing professor. Took him for HONS 152 and BIOL 211. Very clear. Willing to help at all times. Genuinely cares about his students and is willig to talk about anything in a very professional manner (even outside of biology). Your interest in biology will only increase with Dr. Scholtens. Scholtens is absolutely amazing! He makes not-so-difficult material easy to understand. He goes out of his way to make sure everything is clear. He's VERY smart, and is always smiling! He even made PLANTS interesting. Take him!!!
