He knows his stuff, but it's not so apparent that he knows as much about transmitting the information in a clear manner that is easy to understand. He is extremely reliant on jargon in his lectures. I understand that the course does involve learning many new terms, but he really could integrate them more gradually/smoothly.

Knowledgeable and interesting lecturer. The class required quite a bit of studying but if you like the subject matter it's really great. Quizzes are short, you get choices of short answer on tests. Try to practice with the Higgins phonetics tutor as the listening quiz is tough without preparation.

Very knowledgeable on the topic! Class is quite interesting. I found the quizzes easy, others didn't because they just didn't study. Quizzes are based on handouts and mostly the textbook. A fair marker. Easily approachable.

Bruce is an extremely knowledgeable guy {I've had textbooks that cite him}. He can be a tough grader but it's only because he wants you to be clear and show a true understanding of the material. He's very willing to help and will always find a way to explain it that makes sense to you. Great teacher!

Great prof. Be prepared for old school lectures. Not an easy course, readings are mandatory. He's a very fair marker, and he's great if you need to go to him for help. Explains things well. Very knowledgeable. Tests are hard, but reflect class and reading material. I learned a lot in his class. I'd recommend him in a flash.

Knowledgeable, should publish a textbook for Phonetics & Phonology. A fair marker. Always open 2questions. Expert in African languages, applies his knowledge productively w/ useful examples. Teaching style may not be smb's idea of fun but if u learn better w/ old school lecturers who don't interact but get str8 2the point, Prof. Connell's ur man.

a nice prof but seems to mix up the concepts and not only confuse himself but also the class. his tests are slightly random where half the class does well and the others doesnt. hes a fair marker. he tends to go back on his word/expectations.

He is very ver helpful Professor. In addition, he knows how to teach, I learned a lot in his courses. He gives many home workes for students in order to practice and learn from that. He is open minded. All in all, I am going to take more courses with him the years to come

I took his english grammar course & I didn't do so well. I sucked @ linguistics. You need to know your definitions and examples or else you're TOAST for quizzes & tests! I fell asleep a lot, it was a friday 9am class & he gave the dirtiest & angriest stares if he catches u asleep - he doesn't bother to wake you up though. In general, he marks hard.

Not bad, quizzes were easy, exams fairly so. Excellent one-on-one production and identification of sounds coach. Office hours almost more valuable than in-class. How annoying was that question-asking girl?!?!?

Gives great lecture notes, has tricky quizzes where he says the material on them will beon one thing but instead it focuses on everything else. Lecturing style is very boring and tells us to buy one book for the course but constantly refers us and gives us additional reading to another!!

He is very helpful, patient and an excellent prof who knows his stuff and what he's teaching. Material is very clear once you are comfortable with his style of teaching. I would take phonetics with him again any day.
