Most work is done online now. The new book with an access code is required to complete assignments. Erskine was very helpful if you had a question that pertained to the lesson. However, if you were ever confused about the website he was not the man to ask.. haha:) He is a very nice guy. (Though the lessons can be a bit dull)

He thinks an awful lot of himself. He is a pretty good flutist, but is mostly interested in playing himself. If you want a teacher who pushes you to do better, he is so not the person. We spend most of our lessons with him playing or talking about random things. Unfortunately, he has tenure and he won't retire.

Mr. Erskine is an experienced flute instructor who gives detailed and advanced instruction. He is professional and practical. If you are serious about practicing, his methods work. He is an excellent performer. Many of my friends who have taken from him have gone on to have professional careers in orchestras and symphonies across the country.

He is not a very good flute player. His tone is airy and just not very good at all. Couldn't stand it, but he's all they've got. He makes me think the tenure thing is a bad idea.

Erskine is a very talented, effective music teacher. He cited many examples from his own experiences and encouraged me to become as involved as possible, be it playing, listening, reading, learning mythology, whatever... he was very easy to talk to and learn from. I highly recommend him.

He is AWFUL. After I started lessons from him, I went back to my private instructor (who is awesome and in the symphony)to tell her how much I disliked him and his playing...she told me she took from him when she first moved to Memphis and very quickly realized she was much better than him.

Mr. Erskine is my pal. Everyone else had problems with him, but I was always straight up with him and talked to him as if he were one of my friends. We got along great. He tends to talk a LOT through the lessons, but sometimes that's a good thing. He tells lots of stories about his past.
