Comment:
Trumbo is past retirement but the school keeps calling him back to teach. His lectures are awful. He does everything using Statistical software and expects you to do the computations by hand. If youre in his class, go to the SCAA to get tutoring. That will save you. Trumbo is caring and WILL notice if youre trying hard to pass.

He's not great, but not awful either. A lot of information in the class, but you can pick and choose, as for tests, you get to select 3 or 4 problems from a selection of at least 5. Lectures are pretty theoretical, but tests are all solving problems. 85% is an A. Open note tests. Not a lot of hw, all quizzes take home. He's also quite boring!

YOU ARE BY YOUR OWN. If you are not a STAT major avoid him by all means. He has a lot of information on him, but very unclear and he doesn't follow up the book. Just try to avoid him if you are not a STAT major or get ready for long hours of work.

Wow what a horrible rep the Prof. has received. I just finished taking a class with him. He expects a lot but you will learn a deal deal of information to take with you into the future. If you are lazy, then do not take this class or any science/quantitative classes. He is willing to work with students always and he sends emails that are helpful.

Worst course I ever have taken. Course is difficult not because the material is difficult but because the core concepts, ideas, algebraic formulas and techniques are scattered across 2 text books and hundreds of handouts. So much homework that it is difficult to patch together the bits and pieces of relevant material in the remainging time.

Required printouts of 100's of pages on top of the text. He sends emails almost daily and at all hours of the day- very dry lectures. Knows his stuff..but gets caught up in talking about irrelevant things and wastes class time.

Professor not only uses two textbooks but requires printouts of HUNDREDS of pages of additional material. His teaching style is inscrutible, and it is unclear what he wants. You will be unprepared for future classes if you take this professor, as basics are lost in his endless minutiae.

Dr. Trumbo knows much about the subject but for first year grad students I think he went a little to ahead. Too many formulas, sometimes very hard to grasp the basic idea. Fair exams and tricky quizes.

Excellent teacher. Consummate master of the material (Ph.D. Chicago) and has tremendous, infectious interest in it. Not a particularly difficult professor for strong students, but rigorous.

A little too knowledgeable. Understandable if you're a math/engineering major, otherwise, not. But mostly straightforward. Sometimes condescending to some students. Fair grader. Gives surprise quizes.
