I have Wheatley for Human Evolution and Primatology. He is the most informed, interesting, and challenging teacher I have had at UAB. Attendance is necessary to understand the material as is reading the text. If you work hard in his class you can learn more from him than you would believe. I will take every class he teaches. Amazing guy!

Wheatley was NEVER on topic during his lectures. He would always just ramble about his trips and monkeys. His tests are essay, short answer, and identification. It's pretty difficult because you don't know what will be on the tests. It's always little things that no one would remember or notice. He's a nice person, but I dislike him!!

Wheatley is the consummate absent-minded professror, but he's cool. If you need structure, this is not your class. If you do well in a self-guided atmosphere, this class is awesome. Plus, the tests are way easier than he makes them sound beforehand...

Osteology was a lot of fun. Just 4 students, so there was a lot of 1-on-1 with Dr. Wheatley. The lab practical side was *very* self-guided, but he was always willing to answer any questions. The tests were very easy considering the material (he could've been much harder). I highly recommend this class and this prof.

I love anthropology and he made this class extremely boring and irrelevant to the topic we were supposed to be covering. He is literally obsessed with monkeys. His words in preparation for a test, "know everything". His lectures cover nothing and he expects you to know things like a grad student. Very nice man, but not a good teacher at all.

This is the worst class I have ever taken. The notes he gives in class do not even touch the surface of how in depth the test will be. The book is not even as advanced as his test is. I cannot believe he expects anyone to do well in his class.

Took forensic anthropology as an elective but was far from interesting. There is just about NO structure to this course and nobody ever knows whats going on...and neither does Dr.Wheatley. He is very unhelpful and the class is pretty much on their own. I studied my butt off and did well but it was very hard. He does scale. READ THE BOOK.

Wheatley is an extremely nice man. I really liked his class. It wasn't easy to stay awake though. I got an A in the class and i studied my butt off. If you read and listen to his stories, you'd be able to easily make an A. If you just ask for help He'd help you. Overall good experience

Ok, so his class is really boring...you take pages of notes and then find out that it doesn't really help you on the test. My advice, coming from someone who pulled an A out of the class (somehow), is to read the book-especially the bold faced words. Believe me it WILL be on the test.

Weird, I have always made an A in his classes. He's very sweet and always willing to help. I've always found him to be amenable to what the class wants and needs. Maybe these other people who have commented don't really like anthropology? That makes a difference right? :)

The man is really nice and can crack a decent joke every now and then; however, the class is REALLY dry and his tests are nearly impossible. He is very intelligent and enthusiastic about what he does but not the best communicator of the knowledge he has. Study hard (I pulled out an A somehow)!

I think he is fair overall as a professor. He just doesn't speak the language of beginners in the course. There is no doubt that he knows what he is talking about when he tells the story of the monkeys he studied. Don't chastise him because he loves talking about what he knows about. Wouldn't you?

He's a very knowledgeable man, but his lectures aren't very coherently organized. Plus, he tends not to speak very clearly and kind of trails off mid-word. His tangential stories are fun and interesting, but often have nothing to do with the material being tested.
