Penprase knows his stuff, though sometimes he might get carried away and go into more advanced subject matters than the intro class typically covers. He is hilarious and will help you if you need it, though. Assignments/tests/projects are very easy.

Lecture = powerpoints that he read off, about planets. We watched a "music video" about water on the moon I want to say about 6 times. Homework = impossible, not helped by the fact that none of the problems were ever even mentioned in class. 2 take home tests, which I later found that he had cut and pasted from the internet, word for word.

For an intro class...wow. It felt like an upper division physics class. The homework was challenging for people with years of science experience..I was there for a GE. Class consisted of looking at pictures of stuff he found, and learning NOTHING about how to do the impossible homework. avoid at literally all costs. Worst class I had in college

This class was wayyy to hard for an intro astronomy class. I mean, all the students are seniors looking to get a GE requirement--not major in astrophysics. Not to mention the class consisted of watching videos and talking about planets instead of learning how to do the HW. We had to teach ourselves EVERYTHING. And HW was average 10 hrs/week. Avoid

Penprase is one of the nicest guys I have met at Pomona yet, but he should not be teaching a writing class. He was very interested in the material, but couldn't see that many students weren't. We had some cool visitors (2 nobel laureates!), but otherwise a pretty dull class.
