Comment:

I took this class to fulfill my need for a physical science. I did not know the difficulty that this class would pose. The grades are laid out 4 quizzes, 4 tests, and 2 writing assignments. Study as much as you can, I studied about 30+ hours per week. This was by far the hardest class I have taken. Beware!

Comment:

I took Prof Simmons 8 week online astronomy course and it is not a blowoff class by any means. Make sure to read all the chapters and watch his review videos. There are few grades so make sure you study appropriately. He's very good with communication and giving extra credit on tests. Expect roughly 8-10 hours of work per week though.

I took the 8 week online Astro 1504 class. I loved it, but it is a lot of work. Don't think this is a blow off class because its astronomy. It's not a "go out in your back yard and look at stars" kind of class. It is astrophysics. There were two research papers, 4 quizzes, and 4 tests. Be ready to put in at least 10 hours a week if doing online.

He takes his job very seriously. Make sure you hit every point on the essays that he wants you to. Also, watch his review videos!! They will help you with the exams! The exams are purely diagram or short answer questions, so you have to actually do your reading.

as long as you listen to the lectures, and take notes you will make an A. I was very nervous about this class, I took the 8 week course, i pretty much lived with my book. BUT i listened to his lectures and studies my notes. made an A in his class. He is very nice and understanding. And he is funny. I would definately reccomend this class

I made a 98% in his 8wk online astro. course. He does multiple choice quizzes but all of his tests are short answers. He gives out a syllabus for the entire course. If you answer all the questions in the back of the syllabus and study those you WILL PASS his tests! Also don't skip lectures! Don't waste money on the DVD. I never even opened mine.

I took the astronomy 8-week online course. Professor Simmons wants you to succeed. He promptly replied to every email I sent him. Not the easiest class, but if you watch his review videos and take notes on the review print-out, you will do fine. If you pay attention in these videos, you know most of the test questions.

Definitely not what I expected in signing up for an online class at a community college, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Dr. Simmons is really good at explaining concepts and I can't help but laugh during his online lectures. He is so smart it scares me.

He is a cool professor who really loves his job! I would not recommend this class if your not a good note taker. You take notes the entire time and tests are strictly off of them so be prepared to study about 15 pages of notes for your test. Not very many grades so do good on tests!

Professor Simmons was one of the best instructors I've had. He is very enthusiastic about Astronomy and does a good job of translating the material so that you understand. I took the 8-week course. If you do not pass this class it is because you did absolutely nothing. He gives you plenty of opportunities to make a good grade.

He's a little tough but is a good professor. You can't get through this class without studying hard. He is very clear and straight forward. He gives you plenty of oppurtunities to get a better grade on quizzes and tests. His lectures are long, but he is very thorough.

GREAT teacher. I took the online 8-week course, and I don't have nearly enough time, but if you print the review, watch the lecture, THEN go back to the book and NOVA videos, you will do great! He is really clear in explaining things. Wish I could take more classes with him.

Would not recommend him unless you absoutely love listening to hours and hours of boredom on this subject. He is not helpful at all and expects you to LOVE this subject if not than you are screwed. If you make a bad grade on a test he will call you in and basically make fun of you for not understanding. Is one of the worst teachers I have ever met

Great Professor, he checked his emails and got back ASAP! His class was really difficult through telecourse, you had to study or it showed in your grade. The lessons online everywhere I accessed them were always blurry and skipped alot, but if you print his reviews and look them up in the book you will do fine! You must study hard to pass the class

Took the astronomy telecourse. I wish I had taken it in class, because his video reviews were very helpful. He used very clear analogies to help you understand complex topics. The course itself is one of the hardest I've taken, but if you study exactly what and how he tells you to, you can get an A in the class.

Mr. Simmons was extremely helpful and encouraging! As an old-timer returning back to school to finally complete my degree, I found that he was very supportive in all of my efforts toward continuing my education. You couldn't ask for more in a professor than what I have received under his tutelage.
