I could not pay any attention in his class. He was quiet and monotone. I ended up not learning much in the lectures, then struggling to catch up with the reading. The homework was lengthy and time consuming.

Although Dr. Abrams seems to be very knowledgable, his class was boring and useless. He is hard of hearing, so you will have to nearly yell when answering a question. His class is an ideal time to check Facebook or catch up on sleep. However, I would recommend Dr. Hayner or Mrs. Abrams if you want to learn and enjoy Civ discussion class.

A wonderful teacher. He is monotone, but if you are a history student, you must at least pick his brain. I'm surprised at many of other ratings. My whole class loved him and performed well. Not to judge, but it sounds as though most of these "other" students don't care about the material or were just plain lazy and didn't get a teacher who catered.

Unprofessional & discourte - rude, short & unthorough in email correspondance. Disorganized & vague in syllabus, class presentations and grading. I loved what I learned independently but was offended by his negative comments to me for a failure that i feel was based on his poor communication. The worst personal teacher interaction i've ever had.

nice guy, very smart, very boring, and hard of hearing. i could play music on my computer near the front and he couldn't hear it. as far as the class goes. go with Dr. Hayner for tutorial if you can, Dr Abrams is just a little to dry for me to stay with. i honestly tried to stay awake, but at time felt it very hard.

a very thorough and accurate lecturer, but because his in-depth content is delivered in a low-octane cadence, those students with undeveloped attention spans miss out. don't believe the matzko hype, Carl Abrams is the REAL blue chip of the history dept.
