Maybe we just didn't click, but In my view Carol Daeley embodies the down side of liberal arts colleges such as AC. Arrogant, self-important - and full of holier-than-thou information no employer or practical situation will ever warrant. Acts like the students are there to serve her and the school rather than the other way around.

I initially enjoyed this class, but it quickly went downhill. To be fair, she had a death in the family during this semester. However, instead of taking any time off she continued class as usual, which benefited no one. I went from an A to a C in the course of one day. When I asked to see my final exam and paper she had managed to misplace them.

Lecture was great & interesting. Grading was unfair! Yes, she was sick during the summer & didn't finish her syllabus but there is enough time to complete it in the fall. Got a "syllabus" mid-October. For our exams (outside essays) she gave us a prompt. I'd turn it in & she'd tell me I didn't mention enough. WELL it was NEVER asked for! AVOID HER!!

20 years later, Carol is "THE PROF" from my time at AC. Her ability to explain, entertain, and inspire are peerless. As a professor and a mentor, she was the best I ever had. I still remember her guidence on a final- "Prove to me you will not embaress me when asked 'Who was Wordsworth' - use quotes, make it entertaining."

Hah. More like CRAZY Daely... maybe she's good for lit, but DO NOT take Silk & Spices. She gave one-question quizzes asking for insane micro-details, distracted herself with incomprehensible rambling anecdotes, and cannot tell left from right (for serious). She is ten gallons of crazy in a five gallon hat.

I've had Carol three times. She's wonderfully nice and she's brilliant, but sometimes her brilliance disorganizes her lectures. Carol will make you work, but she'll also teach you a ton.
