The class is tough, but expectations are clear. Don't wait until the last minute in this class. Professor is very willing to answer any questions. I learned a great deal and enjoyed the class.

This professor began our course years ago with the most condescending lecture about how we were at Vol State because we weren't hard workers, and how if we worked hard, we could go to a "good" school, too. She also (falsely) accused of being dishonest to do a makeup test. This still makes me so mad, I'm writing this review nearly ten years later.

Comment:

My friend took her online, and he said it was probably the hardest class hed ever taken. He then took her in class, and now he agrees with me. She makes you work, but shes an amazing and genuine teacher. I would recommend completely, as long as youre willing to earn your grade instead of being handed an A.

If you don't like history don't take her. She is smart and you will learn a lot but you will spend 3-4 hours a week reading and have 4 essay's plus 4- 3part test. Quizzes every week that are hard and you will fail if you do not read. This plus discussion boards weekly. Good things is she is on the ball and emails back and always assessable. I got B

As a teacher who teaches a college freshmen class, she expected us to just know how a college class works. No real indication on what she wanted us to take notes over. It was just read the textbook, listen to her talk about stuff that makes no sense, then take a test. & her test question were critical thinking so it was nothing in the textbook

Comment:

Very kind and wise woman. She'll help you if you ask. You just have to work for your grade. Read each chapter before the class over it. She's very knowledgeable. The essays are very open ended on the tests so that even if you didn't review very much on the topic, you still have a chance to fake it and try to make it. The class just requires work.

If you are seeking to fail a course, I highly recommend one of Dr. Bucy's courses. Hardest teacher I've had thus far, and won't be taking her again. I am always a A/B student, but am struggling to barely pass her course with a D. Please do yourself a favor, and don't take her course!

Comment:

Dr. Bucy is a highly respected historian in Middle Tennessee, and I have learned a ton, while also taking 4 other classes. With that said, she is one of, if not the most, difficult teachers I've had. However, it is classes like this that will teach you competitive skills such as analytic reading and writing. This is the big leagues boys and girls.

I have been in Dr. Bucy's class for a month and I don't think I have ever had a class stress me out this bad. Every grades I have made has been an f. I don't even have time to work on my other classes homework. She gives so much work. It's nice to see that's she's passionate about TN but I'd like to make a good grade.

she's literally probably one of the hardest teachers I've ever had. Her "way" of teaching is not comprehendible. She tells you to take notes, but on what???? Her lectures are very long and boring and she keeps you until the last second. We have a test today and I'm no where near ready. Her "review sheet" is a 200 question word document with no answers so if I get the question wrong, how will I know what I'm studying. I've only been in her class for about a month, and I'll probably already fail. I will NEVER take her again. Nobody wants a teacher who is boring and has low test scores because of how hard her class is.

She is by far the toughest teacher I have EVER had. I commit more time to her class than any of my classes and feel like nothing shows for it. I work extremely hard and dedicate my full attention and it's still not good enough. She assigns an obnoxious amount of work and grades tough. It's sad that I find learning unenjoyable in her class.

The hardest class I have ever taken, but I think it was because I took it online. The history of TN would have been more interesting to me if I had learned it from her instead of teaching myself. If you don't read the chapters, you will not pass. That is for sure. SHE WANTS YOU TO DO WELL! Be ready to devote hours to this class. A wise lady.

Professor Bucy really makes you work for the grade that you get. Every day in this class is productive and needed. She gives slack if she knows you're working hard and often finds sympathy in the average college student.

If you don't have more than 40+ hours to read, comprehend plus the work every week, drop the class. I was taking other courses who needed just as much time and working 40+ a week so I had to drop it. She isn't to clear on what she wants in essays no topics she just says read & write analytical essays. Everything in lockdown browser.

Dr. Bucy is a treasure for Vol State. You are in college to learn and that is what you will do in her class. She has written text books, appeared on PBS, and has given lectures around the state. She is an amazingly brilliant and compassionate woman, and I feel fortunate to have had her. Appreciate her knowledge and use it to your advantage!

Comment:

Dr. Bucy is the toughest and the best teacher I have had at Vol State. An overwhelming amount of work, but she adjusted due dates and workload in the middle of the class. If you need help ask her for help and she'll bend over backwards. Hint: get her DVD's from the library that are meant for the hybrid class. Don't get behind & TAKE GOOD NOTES!

I took online TN history. A chapter 25 PG to read every wk, a quiz every wk were she will give you 10 min to do 10 questions. You'll have an article essay to write every week & discussion posts every wk. The study material she gives for the exams will never be on her test. Exams are 50min for 50 questions + 2 essays. This class was awful!!!!!

Literally the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She expects you to revolve around her class. All her article analysis' are due on Saturday mornings at noon after being given on Thursdays in class. I don't know about anyone else, but I work all weekend and rarely have time to get her assignments done. She is very condescending, also.
