Honestly, I regret not looking into this professor before taking her course. She is very rude to her students and lowers grades based on things that are not specified in the assignment or on the syllabus. She would rather you make a different point than anyone else in the discussion thread than to present a well-thought-out piece of work. -10/10.

The material is very interesting but Dr. Perkins makes it a living hell. There is so much homework and she gives very vague instructions. She grades you on things that she does not tell you how to do. If you ask her for help, she simply restates what she said before or tells you to review the lecture. She grades very hard and is quite rude.

I have been a student here for three years and I've NEVER had a professor this difficult. She claims that you do everything wrong and expects you to understand her bland topics. She also expects you to put more focus on this class more than the others that you may be taking. All I can say is save yourself the trouble and DO NOT TAKE.

Received an A in the class, but felt insulted by how rude she can be. Doesn't explain what exactly she wants from you, nor teaches you how to do it. Takes points off if you don't do it right, so beware. 10/10 would not recommend.

In my top worst professors. Very confusing and unclear on what she expects. There are two big papers that she's very unclear on instructions, and just repeats the instructions when you ask for help. I went to the writing center for a paper, they told me my paper was perfect, she failed me on it. Reading material was the only thing I liked about it

Granted that I took this class online, in a 6 week course, I thought this class was terrible. the material was interesting but I felt that the prof was kind of scatter brained and didn't really give the best feedback or directions on the papers and material assigned. There isn't much opportunity for mistakes.

I absolutely love Dr. Perkins! She's brilliant, hilarious, and her group discussions about the week's readings really help further your understanding and prompt you to think of things you had previously never considered. She does make attendance/participation mandatory, but as long as you do her weekly journal and two essays it's an easy, fun A.

Discussion is HEAVY in this class. Do not think you can go into class and not say a word all semester cause she will call you OUT. (not in a mean way) Lots of reading and the assignments are interesting but slightly ambiguous. I was always emailing her to ask for more instructions but she was very attentive to responding. Very funny and kind lady.

If you are a very independent thinker who can work well with very unclear and open ended prompts for five page essays, this is your class. If you are none of the above (save the independent thinker) like me, RUN! Do not pass go. Do not collect $200! Stay clear of this Professor. She did not email me clear answers, and was just a headache.

Worst professor I've ever had! She doesn't care if you're struggling, she ignores emails, and very strict on grading although you'll state you're not too sure on the topic. She isn't clear on topics, and doesn't bother to further explain when asked. Highly do not recommend.

Dr. Perkins is entertaining. Her in-person classes follow the same basic format, a weekly journal on the readings, and two papers. You have to talk to -her- about the papers. She will help. She gives very thorough feedback on the outline and the rough draft; if your going to do poorly she will tell you how to fix it. Listen to her criticisms.

Her "comments" are mostly just her telling you everything you did wrong with no context whatsoever. She is also very unclear on what she wants from the papers you have to write about ridiculously vague topics. She is a quick grader, which is her only upside. Would not recommend.

I took her CL319 class and I have never had so many issues with a professor. She was not helpful what so ever. When she 'gives advice' on how to make an assignment better, she usually grades you worse when take said advice. I honestly do not see how she is still a professor at Marshall. Her entire class all has about the same complaints

I had her for an online course and would email her in a very timely manner (2-3 weeks before) for help on an assignment and she wouldn't get back to me until after the assignment was due. She seemed to not care at all that I was a struggling student that needed help with an assignment before it was due not after.

Dr. Perkins is nice but unclear about every assignment she gives. Mythology is really interesting. But like other people on here said, what she expects exactly from assignments feels like you're stabbing in the dark and just hoping for the best. After a while, you'd think you'd start being more concise if everyone says it's your biggest weakness.

The class was all discussion with a few short papers. What she wants can be unclear at times but if you turn in the assignments early she will let you know how to fix it. It was pretty easy for a classics class.

I took Dr. Perkins for a classical mythology course online, I really regret it. She is not clear on what she wants you to write about in these 5 page papers and when you ask for help, she explains something completely different than what her assignment said, and still fails you because you didn't set it up they way she would have.

She is very into classics and mythology. Her enthusiasm is definitely a plus. (Unfortunately, I know nothing about the subject.) Weekly readings and assignments but it doesn't take too long. Participation is a big deal; she will make you speak. If you ask for help, she will help you. She replied to my emails within minutes.

Dr. Perkins is a very tough grader. I am a very good student and have never got a B and am about to because I received an awful grade on one assignment without real reason for it. Apparently her grades are final and she will not give you the points that you deserve. What is the most annoying is she doesn't explain why you received those grades.

One of worst professors I have ever had. Completely unclear assignments and she is ancient and has ridiculous standards. I have a prior degree in English and writings and she destroyed my papers. Ruins any potential interest with topics because of her assumption she is the authority on good writing and a students understanding.
