Comment:
Carroll is a nice man, but I highly advise against taking his class. The topic is interesting but the readings are redundant/extremely boring. His tests force you to recall numbers and facts from the text, rather than concepts...not to mention the lectures are painfully boring.

Tom Carroll is the greatest teacher I've ever had. He is super helpful and I look forward to his class every week. It is an unforgettable experience!

Basically, you need to sit in the back of the room with your laptop. He'll tell you to close your laptop - do not. Just ignore him and act like it's closed. Eat up an hour and a half that way and you're done. Relatively painless. Assuming you're not stupid, reading the textbook will net you an A.

It's absolutely impossible to keep up with the notes in this class. He reads straight from the notes, which is basically the entire chapter rewritten.

Attendence is usless because the lecture consists of him re-reading the notes he posts online. He tests not the general concepts, but obscure facts in the texts.

This man should not be allowed to teach. Boring. He is also one of those folks that gets lost and seems to be confused about everything - I wouldn't be surprised if he forgets his own name from time to time. You'll learn nothing and be tested on fine details taken directly from the readings (forget lectures...though attendance is required) Enjoy

Comment:
Professor Carroll is extremely boring. He gets confused very easily and changes his mind continuously. The readings are almost as boring as the class and although all he does in class is read to you his notes on the material you've already read, attendence is part of your grade. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

Never had I had such a strong urge to curl up and take a nap during class. Professor Carroll's monotonous voice and tediously long lectures make me want to hibernate. The readings are incredibley repeatitive... yet necessary to pass the course. His exams call for an acute memory rather than an understanding of the course objectives. Steer clear!

The most boring class I have ever taken. Entire class sleeps through it. Professor Carroll is very knowledgable but needs to deliver the material in a better way.

the class did jump around a bit. for a non major, it was not a challenge in content, but in time. we had lectures, two books to read, out of class lectures to attend, videos, and group assignments throughout. so it did take alot of time.

He was a sweet man and he knew what he was talking about but didn't teach it too well. Wonderful TA. Read the books and it's easy.
