Comment:
too much work for a 100 level class. You will learn a ton and the class is very interesting if you love the subject, but writing a 30 and 15 page paper on top of 2 exams is very difficult. Kaufmann knows a lot but class can get boring.

kaufmann knows everything, and by the end of this class you will have learned so much too. By far the class that has made me learn the most. It is a LOT of work though. Make sure you do the extra credit and do well on the nuclear force posture project. I

This was the IR writing intensive class for spring11. It was a ton of work for 4 credits, but Kaufmann really does want students to succeed. No exams, but a daily response paper due for nearly every class on top of research and assignments for an individual research paper.

I love Kaufmann! Don't get intimidated by the fact that he knows EVERYTHING that has ever happened in the world (true)- in a small class he sometimes goes overboard with disproving students' postulations which is embarrassing, but he really cares about his students' learning. Lots of reading, come prepared to discuss. You'll learn a lot.

Comment:
Knowledgable and helpful, if a bit absent-minded. He assigns a lot of reading, but not that much more than you would expect from an IR class. Also, he gives a ridiculous number of extra credit opportunities, so it's not hard to do well in his classes.

very easy class to get an A in. he offers 10 points of extra credit in a class that has 130 and you need 100 for an A. lectures are very boring and pretty much unnecessary

Kaufmann is a great professor. He may say "um" a lot, but his lecture are interesting and he knows everything about the subject. He is very helpful, and is a fair grader. Tests are fairly easy if you do the reader and there is always extra credit. Always willing to help you improve. Don't take the class if you don't want to do lots of reading.

A lot of required reading, tests ensure that you've done them. Very difficult grader and very monotone lecturer. If you can get past these things, he's a very knowledgeable professor. You'll learn a lot but might not get the grade.

Very good professor whose lectures are engaging is you are interested in the subject and make an effort to participate. He is very knowledgeable and a fair grader. Be warned that his classes do tend to be very reading intensive and he tests in such a way that ensures you have done all the readings.

Most boring professor I've ever had. Very knowledgeable, but hard to stay awake with his monotonic voice droning on and on. Lots of reading as well, but if completed it's not too difficult to pass his classes.

There's a ridiculous amount of reading and work that needs to be done for the class, but the tests and the assignments are all very fair. If you don't do well, it's your fault, not his. He's also extremely knowledgeable. Recommended if you have any interest in IR

There's a ton of reading. The articles are good, but the books are really dull. You have to go to class, or at least get the notes from someone. The problem is, he speaks pretty monotone and says umm at a record pace, so staying awake is an issue.

If you can get past his arrogance, take his class. Yea, he's got a rough personality, but he's the smartest man at Lehigh, and makes you learn it. Also, it's easy to get an A if you want to. He gives a lot of extra credit.
