Tough class and tough material to understand but if you stay focused and takes notes, your fine. He is a tough grader because he is very smart so in my opinion he thinks if we dont see things how he does, its wrong. Write very detailed notes and if you dont get something, ask. he will try his best to explain. Often late/doesnt show up.

He was a great teacher! However he was often late, and in one case completely forgot about the class. (I drove 45 minutes and he wasn't even here!) The material is pretty challenging, but he does a great job of explaining it. The exams are made to show what you do know, which is great because the material is pretty complex and deep.

This is just a tough class in general. Professor wise, he is great and tries his best despite the dry material. I would take again.

He is a good professor and does what he can to make sure you understand the material. He will make time if you go to his office. But mostly refuses to use email.

Great professor, cares about the success of his students, and goes out of his way to help. This class is very reading heavy and a third of your grade was based off a longer paper, but the topic is of your choosing and he plans the class out well in preparation. If you do the work and pay attention in class, you will do well.

Wonderful, wonderful man that goes above and beyond for his students IF YOU JUST ASK. His lecture is very thorough and clear and anybody bored is bored because they are not contributing- which he really loves if you do. If you go to his office hours or email him, he is very willing to help. Plus- all readings are online which he did to save us $$$

Only one paper for the entire semester on any subject, as long as it relates to pity. The paper is made up of a 21 page annotated bibliography and a 15 page paper. He also gives you a chance to get extra credit by "presenting" your paper (more like discussing with the class) in a very informal matter. Overall a great class!

Great professor in my opinion, super smart and knowledgeable about the subject material. Most of his classes are lectures, and focused on academic papers to help your final paper. There's two long assignments, an annotated bibliography and a final paper but the annotated bibliography makes the paper so much easier. Flexible on deadlines too.

If you are not such a lazy student, I strongly recommend you to take a class with him. He treats you as an adult, a young scholar. Although 99% of his class is lectures, but his materials are very difficult and interesting enough for doing that, and he always welcomes any question. Has a power of explaining difficult methods easily. S+ pedagogue.

Such a great professor! He really loves the subjects he teaches, and actually make a point to make sure his students understand the material. A bit scatter-brained sometimes, but it's not too much of an issue.

Extremely nice and amazingly intelligent. Really knows his stuff! The entire grade was a annotated Bibliography and the final essay, but he had you submit your ideas for sources ahead of time. If you had trouble with sources, he basically gave them to you. If class wasn't about your paper topic though, might as well skip since no relevance to grade

Difficult class. Attendance is NOT mandatory but if you don't go you won't understand ANY of the texts. He gives great examples in class. 3 exams; 2 essay questions. He's the most brilliant professor I've had at UA. Need to work hard for a good grade. He's real hard to get in contact with.

He should be teaching at an Ivy league school. Suny Albany is lucky to have him. Take aeng210 with him. The concepts aren't easy, but he is more than willing to explain until he is blue in the face. One of my favorite professors.

Professor Shepherdson is the first professor I had who made me feel like I was getting an Ivy League education. He treats you like an adult, gives you room to develop your own ideas in papers, but he is serious and demanding about ideas and students writing. He lectures and gives close attention to the class readings, so you really understand by

Horrible. Doesnt take attendance, no assignments due but final paper. Doesnt respond to emails and if does they're about 2 wks late and you dont have the question anymore. Good luck getting an explanation on your grade, too. Never got the final paper- the ONLY assignment for the entire semester- back, either. Most arrogant man ever.

I think he's very sweet and passionate about his work. He's so intelligent, it's unreal. Interested more in what we get out of a text than what he can offer us. Encourages opinions. Very approachable.
