Comment:
Good prof, but can be anal. A lot of the actual teaching is done by the TAs and he's not even in class half the time. Still a nice guy and is generally friendly. The class itself involves a lot of stuff that will definitely not be used again anytime soon, but at least going out in the field and just catching random stuff is a lot of fun.

I'd recommend you try to get out of taking this class if you have no interest in being a naturalist. A ridiculous amount of work is required for this class. I wouldn't recommend taking more than 2 other classes along with this class. This class is absurd.

Best class I've ever taken! Charlie is an amazing naturalist and makes an effort to know each student. If you want to gain some field knowledge or just have fun outside take this class!!!!!!

He's awkward at first, but as the course goes on, you can warm up to him. I think most people mistake his awkwardness for egoism. He has a lot of integrity and is one hell of a naturalist. His field bio course is rigorous but very worthwhile! I think you end up with a better understanding in his opposed to gavin's.

ChaZ is a great guy. You can just tell the way he teaches you things that he's not full of**** like other teachers. The man knows his stuff... so sure, he's egotistical but, he'll also tell you when you're doing good. He's a man of truth. The class is rigorous, but,if you don't already love the subject you'll soon learn to. Amazing experience!!!

Egomaniac. Stickler for details. Enjoys making students squirm. Labs have little structure but he angrily complains when students chat etc.

Mr. Smith made homophobic comments in class, discussed personal politics, and did not know answers to questions on a subject he's taught for years. He seemed insecure, told our class to "shut up", called us kindergarteners. A real Jekyl and Hyde. Course work is valuable, but get it somewhere else

Tough class, but very interesting. Dr. Smith is hard on his students, but in the end they learn more than in Gavin's class. If you want to learn something, go with Smith. If you're a dumb, jock frat boy just looking to slide by, Gavin.

Antagonistic, ecotistical, and seems to take pleasure in watching people nearly fail his class. He cares more about memorizing mundane details than he does about you understanding the material, and is unneccessarily rigid. This class was absolute hell.

Charlie was one of my favorite professors ever. I graduated over a decade ago, yet I am taking the time to rate him--that should say it all. He was tremendously knowledgeable, enthusiastic, funny, and kind. A rare combination. A+!
