Took jazz appreciation online. Class is an easy A if you stay on top of the due dates and do all the assignments. Hardly marked off points for any of the assignments I submitted . Although this was a virtual class, he seems to be a pretty easy going guy

Great online professor, moderate work load, clear explanation of assignments and grading criteria, very good at responding to emails and helpful with any issues you may have during the course (he extended my deadline on one quiz that I couldn't take because of computer issues) I would recommend this professor. Rate 5, Grade A.

Took his online class and it was more difficult than it should have been. A lot of the quiz/exam questions asking about songs were so confusing and unnecessary. The mystery tune at the end of the class is hard and you will not guess it. Overall though if you try and put in the effort you will pass, he's an easy grader. Just turn in the work.

The class was fairly easy. Lectures and reading every week may get a bit boring but they were doable. The hardest part for me was trying to remember the music for the quizzes and then the mystery tune assignment. He's very slow to get back with grades, and he never did reveal the answer to the mystery tune, so don't expect to find out.

Charlie is a great teacher. He musicianship is above anything I've ever heard. He teaches jazz and is very clear about what he wants. He also has a thing with cowbell. When or if you join the ensemble, make sure you play the cowbell in at least one song. He will greatly enjoy it. With all that, he is an amazing teacher.

This class I took during winter semester. I can say it was a lot of work, but I got through it. Mr. Richard is very straight to the point on what he wants and how it should be done. Analysis of songs, tests, critique music assignment, mystery tune essay, and reading. Just do your work and you will get a good grade.

The lecture notes will earn you a C on the tests. Be sure to read the required textbook chapters, and you'll breeze through the tests. Overall the class is very interesting. Be sure to listen CLOSELY to the song selections (maybe make playlists in iTunes), cuz a significant portion of the test questions have to do with listening.

Jazz appreciation is HORRIBLE online!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE A LOT OF JAZZ BACKGROUND. Very difficult tests, lots of writing (you're not even allowed to use the text as a source). Way too much effort just for an elective. Take an easier class for 3 credits. Richard not too helpful with email responses.

Anyone taking this class should have at least 2 years of solid music experience. Teacher is nice, test are very hard, and it is a lot of writing. If you really enjoy music and have knowledge then go ahead and take it, if not proceed with caution. You have to go above and beyond just to get a passing grade.
