Chella is amazing, brilliant, and inspirational. She cultivates a classroom environment that is conducive for creativity and some of your best writing. I preferred fiction writing but as a result of her class the poems I wrote for assignments are now what I consider some of my best work. superb prof and an excellent class to expand creativity

What I like about Doc is that she gets us to talk about social issues that other teachers avoid. I noticed that more students got involved in discussions than in other classes. She requires a lot of reading & writing. It is an English course. I loved it.

Doc is a great teacher. She not only knows her stuff but is open to other points-of-view. The classes start with meditation (chair yoga) and free writes. I personal preferred the poetry section. The group work helped me gain confidence to share my own "take" on the literature we studied. Warning: Not a class for procrastinators. Keep up!

I liked this class. I had her for 110 then 111. She's a great inspiration. She had variety in class. We read & wrote poetry, attended & performed plays, read & discussed short stories. She expects you to read, participate. She treats us like college students. If you like words, she's one to take. Plus, I took her for creative writing. Great teacher

10 minute meditations and 10 minute freewrites at the beginning of classes. If you already write amazing essays and enjoy reading literature, then this class is for you. However, no lessons on how to improve your writing is given. She expects you to know how to write from English 110. Expect B grades at best. As are given to teachers pets.

Dr. Chella Courington is the most inspirational professor I've ever had. She's the kind that makes you want to dig into the work with a backhoe. I enjoy her teaching style. I recommend her to anyone who has to take an English course, and even more to those who love the subject. I love to read. Now I've learned how to unpack the author's intent.

Doc rocks. She seems to love what she does. Shes hard though. We read and wrote a lot. I had her for 110and loved her. This is a different kind of class. More literature focused. I went to her office alot and she was very helpful. This is the class I Did every week. She treats us like adults. She better than most teachers Ive had.

I liked this class. Doc requires a lot of reading and writing. But she's kind, smart & willing to work with you any time. I liked that Doc is open to everyone's opinion and lets us work in groups. You have to keep up week to week. It's not a class that you can do at the last minute. Take her if you can.

A kind person, but very monotone and not very intriguing. She gives us questions every class and places us in groups. She does not clarify what she wants in assignments, and grades harshly for no reason. Doesn't tell you what she wants other than to "Analyze". Learned nothing, as no lessons were given. You don't know your grade until the end.

We did a weekly journal entry and they have to be 750 words or more. No exceptions. We also did plays and she graded harshly on those even though we aren't professional actors. Essay were okay, but she wouldn't give us an example of what she was looking for. Don't fall behind or you'll spend hours trying to catch up on all assignments.

Didn't read at all, got an A. Great format for a creative writing class. Doc is best, just submit an organized portfolio that meets the page count(doesn't even have to include all prompts/take-home assns) and you'll pass. Make sure you take advantage of the opportunity to submit your work & get people to review; also enter the contests! Really fun!

Doc is a good teacher and makes the class interesting. It's the one I really like going to. She's smart, kind, and open. We've read some good books like The Things They Carried and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. The class discussions and group discussions make me think about life outside my box. If you have a chance, take her.

This class was painful. Doc is a nice woman, but the class itself requires a lot of time outside of period like mandatory tutoring and spending money on plays. She threatens to drop you after 2 absences but she won't. She moves slowly so the class does too. This class was the bane of my existence and I dreaded it every week.

No tests. I did none of the reading got an A in the class. Doc really helps create a community for writers and the environment is very conducive to constructive criticism. If you participate(!!) & make an organized portfolio at the end of class, you WILL get an A. Definitely recommend this class to beginningexperienced writers. Doc is the best!!!
