She is excellent professor. She tries to cover all the topics of the subjects by considering the real business practice world. There are lots of categories of marks such class group assignments, project, home works, journals, class participation and final exam. Need to be serious from the first class and follow her instructions to get better grade.

She is just awesome, a beauty with brain. Her lecture, style, attitude, knowledge, care, inspiration - everything compels me to say her perfect. I do not know why people call her tough grader, I really found her justified and learned a lot. At the end of the day, only hard work pays off in her class. I will love to take her class again and again.

If you like to learn something about real-world, then you must take her class. Her classes are too long but it ultimately paid off. If you do your best then grade will come automatically. I will never like to tell her as a tough grader rather she is a justified grader.

Very tough grader because projects lack specific directions. VERY TOUGH AND PICKY ON CITATIONS. Overall made the course tougher than it needed to be. That being said she is very smart and knows her Finance. Take her of you don't work or take other classes because her classes are very time intensive.

The horror stories are all true with her. If you want to pull your hair out and spend hours trying to understand what she was saying because she just talks and barely rights notes down then take her. I wish the school would do something about her, because she is truly awful. I got a A, but had to do it by myself, her classes teach you nothing.

Dr Etling just retelling what book says, no slides which makes understanding almost impossible. It's unclear what professor requires from you and what is essential to study or not. She is really detail-oriented and don't care if you make minor mistake. Half of class just drop this course because of low grades. I will not advice to take her course.

A lot of people have the wrong perception of her. She's challenging because she wants us to be prepared for the real world (from learning the textbook material to being able to send a professional, concise email to your boss). I think the class is actually kind of brilliant and essential. & after this class, you'll be able to kick ass in excel!

This is finance, welcome to reality. You are expected to manage other people's money, it should be stressful. Lectures are heavy. Lots of projects, if you start early and ask good questions you can score high. If you read the book well and understand it, you will get an A. Taught me how to be come a real student. You want to be a CFA, FRM? not easy

Comment:
The Exams and Projects are vague and the grading criteria are almost 90% subjective. The exam structure is heavily dependent on theoretical reading with the minimum quantitative application. In-class group projects are interesting but it is almost impossible to understand what are you required to do. All her exams average is between 60-70 %

Dr. Etling is the toughest and most rewarding teach I've ever had. She's merciless, just like the real world. I'm much better off for having had her for several important Finance classes.

Very hard class, grading is not curved and some projects are confusing. However she actually care about her students and she is trying to prepare them to real-world situations. Very hard professor, but you will learn a lot if you put the effort.

Dr. Etling is definitely not the happiest or most enthusiastic teacher, dreaded by students and even facility. She practically expects students to to get failing grades and thinks this is satisfactory. Read the material, attend and know how to use Excel and you will at least pass. Nothing else guaranteed. 100% recommend taking during summer.

Well, since I see many people crying here, I thought I would post my thoughts about Dr. Etling's class. I am not sure about the grade yet (I expect an AB), but her class was absolutely the best class I have had at UT, and she never wasted one minute of it. Take her if you are serious about your career in business. The way she teaches is amazing.

Dr. Etling's course was difficult there's no denying that. However, if you read up on the material and apply yourself when in class, you can definitely pull a B. Citations, citations, citations--make sure you follow her guidelines (you've been warned). I appreciated the difficulty (it prepared me)--news flash being a Finance major isn't easy

The unhappiest and toughest Professor. Beware and never trust her. Pretending to care and do right for the wrong reasons makes her the worse Professor.

She does more harm than good to the students and faculty. I would rather die and burn in hell then be taught by her again. That is how bad of a person and sinister she is. The school needs to get rid of her.

Very overrated in terms of hardness. She's ok not hard. If you find her hard you should seriously think of changing your major to dancing or marketing. She will make you work, I personally enjoyed the challenges and was honored to be mentored by her. If you love finance you'll see her as a pioneer. Follow her guidelines + put some effort, take an A
