Comment:

Walker-Esbaugh is a great intro Latin professor. She knows how to present information in a way that you learn quickly. She gives plenty of extra-credit opportunities. Homework every night, but its only graded on completion. She cares about her students and works with them to help them succeed.

Comment:

I took this course over the summer thinking it would be an easy medical vocab class... Well I was completely wrong. We had 3-5 hours worth of homework EVERYDAY, had to know soooooo much material for the tests AND had to either go to campus or a test site just to take the exams. I have taken a lot of online classes and never experienced so much work.

Probably the strictest teacher I have ever had. Miss one little thing and she will take off a lot of points. I highly recommend not taking this or class or at least not having her as the grader.

Had her for Latin 1. She is an absolutely fabulous woman. She gives homework everyday, but doesn't grade it on correctness, only grades it on if you did it. She will tell you days before quizzes/exams what will be on them. Couldn't be nicer :)

Excessive homework. She grades very strictly, counting for very minor things. Fifty words each assignment and a handful are graded. If you don't have to take it dont.

Comment:

The Medical Vocabulary class she teaches is not optimized for student learning. The homework is excessive (do fifty words and she only grades ten; forces you to make online flashcards and dropbox them). Quizzes are quickly timed, but built well for the course. The class should just be the quizzes and exams. It's more work than my 4K level classes.

Absolutely loved Professor Walker-Esbaugh, she is incredible and you learn so much. I had her for Latin 1115 and 1215. They were both very difficult and you definitely have to work for it, but its completely worth it.

The teacher is very confusing on her grading, the assignments are not easy, because she counts off for spelling in the assignment and if you put "compound suffix" and the correct answer is "compound suffix form" then you get a 60 on your homework assignment. If you don't HAVE to take this class then I wouldn't.

The homework takes 3-4 hours to complete. If you are taking it as a summer class it is better. With a 15 hour load good luck. The quizzes are easy since they are online. You only have two test and they are both worth 550 points. Extremely easy to forget when assignments are due. At least she responds to emails quickly.

She is not understanding on any situation; she grades everything way too hard.. literally down to the littlest detail. Midterm is 550 points and very tough. Tons of time required to put into this class.

I took this class online and it was actually not that bad. She replies to emails very fast which is good. There is a lot of homework but it is manageable. Do not wait till the last minute to do the homework assignments, you will only suffer. As for tests, as long as you study and do well on the homework you should be fine.

She's awesome. Just took 1215 after not taking latin since sophomore year of highschool and Mrs. Walker-Esbaugh made it awesome. Super clear lectures and very understanding as a teacher. I would recommend this class to anyone! You cant miss too many classes, but if you dont she allows for the option of not taking the final. She's the bomb

I took her online and if anyone has ever taken an online class it is so frustrating when a professor doesn't get back to you quickly. She emails back VERY fast, and is pretty clear on what is expected of you. I took it during intercession so it was really fast paced. Got a B but I feel like if I had 16 weeks I could've gotten an A Pretty easy class

The material is not the easiest to master - like any foreign language, it is going to be difficult if memorization isn't your strong suit. But Walker-Esbaugh makes it perfectly clear what will be on each test/quiz, and almost ALWAYS has a review day or a study guide. One of the few teachers who offers extra credit, also. Attendance counts for 20%.

This was my first semester of Latin that I have ever taken, which made the class slightly harder, but it's mostly memorization. There is a quiz/test every Friday & you will need all Thursday night to study. There's homework everyday of the week & one assignment per weekend = 6/week. Attendance is mandatory & there are a lot of bonus opportunities.

Comment:

The class itself is tough because it takes a lot of work to learn a language, which is why she expects you to show up to class. But she is extremely helpful, as well as super nice and funny, and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities and office hour time. Lots of work but she lets you know what's on the tests. She really wants you to succeed.

She is extremely consistent and tells you exactly what will be on each test. She will go off and tell stories from Greek Mythology and it's great. She is very smart and sarcastically funny. Go to her office hours if you are confused, she is very helpful.
