Comment:

Boring, lecture heavy and repetitive. Quizzes were online and easy. It was unclear what we needed to know. Hard to stay awake during class. Nice guy and not overly hard but would not recommend this class.

Comment:

Professor Nevison is an incredibly smart person, but not a good teacher. Several times I went to his office hours and he wasn't there. Not only did I and my classmates gain a very limited understanding of the course material, but I also felt frustrated after nearly every class. It was unclear what we should know, and he never gave feedback on work!

I took the class a year ago. It was very challenging and I truly learned a lot from it. If you work hard, you'll understand the material and find it extremely interesting. Expect 2-3 hours of reading before every class, because otherwise you would obviously get bored during the lectures because you couldn't understand much.

He has to be the most boring professor at this school. I could barely stay awake during the classes. Also, he is super unclear in his grading standards. Avoid this teacher at ALL COSTS!!!!!

Worst professor I ever had. He single-handedly made me reconsider the major. He doesn't properly explain anything and his lectures actually make the material harder than it actually is. Just read the textbook and try to learn it from other sources and professors. AVOID!

I have been taking classes in many different departments, but his lectures are absolutely the worst I had in past three years. Boring and unclear. He is even worse in the labs. He would talk for a minute and then expect us to figure out everything. Extremely unhelpful and will easily get mad/impatient if you ask more than one question. AVOID HIM!!!

Pretty easy class, the lectures are boring and the second half of the semester is a little harder than the first, but the grade is 20% homework quizzes due online, 20% a midterm test, 20% final paper, 20% final group project, and 20% labs, most of which is pretty straightforward. This also comes as Core 139s but there's an extra final exam.

Very boring and slow class. Pretty easy if you get the book and read. Nevison assigns 3 projects and 2 exams. Hard grader with labs cause you have no idea what he wants. I would recommend taking if you want an easy pass but not if your looking to learn something.

Classes are unhelpful. He goes fast and doesn't explain clearly, just reads off slides most of the time. Sometimes he just rambles and you're not sure what notes to take. His slides are not very helpful either. I felt confused and helpless through most of the semester.

Nevison is not a good teacher and a mean and unforgiving person. As someone who has been programming over a decade and loves computer science, I would absolutely not major in CS if I thought I had to take another class with Nevison. Luckily, I don't.

He knows what he's talking about, but can't seem to explain it in terms that the students can understand. He is easily frustrated and one should be cautious when asking him questions. Though as a person he is a nice guy, I definitely do not like him as a professor.

He is a great teacher. If you think you don't get the book, he'll explain it in class until it makes sense. If you do get the book, you can go to the lecture just to hear the additional explanations and examples (or stare out the window) His class is very interesting and there are no papers :)))
