Comment:
Professor Maher is a good professor it all comes down to her grading. She is a very tough grader and expects students in a 100 level course to be able to write (almost) word to word what they learned in class with perfect spelling. She made us write essays on a book but then basically dipped our essays in red ink. This class Failure.

I passed Biology I with an A, obviously she made me look like I have never had any experience with Biology. For the first day she graded me to the last day, Failure became my Last name. You can get an A though, but I promise you will not forget how much you devoted all your life and sacrificed all other classes just for her.

Prof Maher was the hardest grader I've ever had. I was expecting this class to be relatively easy, but was bombarded with hours and hours of work each week. Each of my writing assignments was marked up all over the place and I always felt as if she were talking down to me. I wouldn't take her again.

I have never met such an ignorant professor. She is not AT ALL capable of teaching let alone spending one on one time to teach you (& doesn't make time to). Tests are impossible and cover virtually everything you didn't cover and then some. Her research essay topic is ridiculous and she is unclear as to what she wants. DO NOT TAKE WITH HER!!!!

I'm a pretty good student, I went to all the classes, took really great notes, read the textbook, asked questions and was still confused. This professor is really all over the place. You really need to focus and take extra notes just to be clear on what she's teaching. Would not recommend whatsoever. Choose the other professor.

This class is very difficult. She expects a lot from her students. She is harsh with her grading but you have a lot of opportunities to get grades. I did, however, really enjoy this class. She is helpful with any questions and you can tell that she LOVES her job.She is very enthusiastic about the subject. Don't take this class if you don't have to.

Not a biology major, took this class to fulfill core requirements.. she taught it as if everyone in the class was an expert on biology. Her lectures were interesting, but her grading was extremely difficult, she would subtract points for improper use of a word or punctuation, and the tests were almost impossible.

For an intro to BIO class for non majors this class was extraordinarily difficult. For BIO majors the class would still probably be difficult. Many writing assignments and she's a grammar stickler. Exams rarely are over information we discussed in class or in the text book. Prof is very annoying and stubborn and very unhelpful. Dont take this class

Very critical about writing assignments. Not an easy A, or an easy B for that matter. I was originally taking Bio 101 with a different professor and she stepped in. Nearly failed because I got failing grades on nearly all writing assignments. Put a lot of work into this class with little to show for it.

She told me that there was no such thing as balance in nature. Just goes to show that she is a taxonomist and not a real scientist. She'd be best kept in a museum instead of a classroom. Take this class with someone else!!

You learn so much from Chris. She's a great teacher, but expects you to really work hard outside of class. She breaks down what parts of the textbooks you should pay attention to, though it's not really necessary. The lab is very difficult. It's surprisingly hard for a 100 level class, lots of memorization, but very do-able if you put your time in.

Good Professor. Her lectures are organized. However, lab not so much. You really do not get much time on her practicals, only 45 minutes. But, you need to put the time into this class. Her tests are hard make no mistakes about it. But she does care about the students. Do not be afraid to approach her. If you do not need this class DO NOT TAKE IT!

This was a horrible class. I barely got through it with a C. This class was taught at a level that was way above 100 level. The professor expects you to remember such vast amounts of information. I am a senior majoring in Mathematics and this class was way harder than any upper level class I have taken. Retained little knowledge from class.

This class is super hard, but Maher is a good teacher. She is organized and tells you what to study before the test. If you put in the time, her class is do-able. She's also very willing to spend the time to help you if you are struggling with something.

Do not take Dr. Maher for bio 107 unless you do not have a job and are not taking any other classes. Her work load is heavy. Her tests are ridiculous. Her questions are vague and she expects you to know what she wants even if she did not specify on the exam. I worked harder in this class than any upper level class I have taken. I have to say that s

Chris Maher is unbelievable! She puts so much energy and work into her lectures and they are FASCINATING. Bio 107 will (if you pay attention and work hard) change how you see the world (i.e. through evolution). She works so hard and her lectures are amazing. Work hard and you will get more than an "A" out of this class.
