Love M. Nivet, she is so funny and entertaining in class but can go through material fast. Definetly best to take if you need to review French rather than learning it for the first time. She is a super forgiving grader and gives comprehensive study materials for tests. Class is super fun and chill with her, active participation is highly valued.

Madame Nivet can be a tough grader, but she gives out review packets that tell you exactly what to expect from the test. Homework, participation and take home exams are a big part of the grade which is nice and makes the midterm and final less stressful. She is more helpful during office hours than if you ask questions in class.

If you are actually trying to learn French I would not suggest you take her class. She is nice but rushes through the material. The class is manageable however, I do not think you'll improve your French by taking this class. She is a tough grader as well.

Christine was the real one! She's is a great professor you just have to be willing to learn. She does have high expectations but she's also a forgiving grader! I always found myself laughing in her class which made me want to come in! On-on oui oui baguette!

I'm a french speaker and I found Ms. Nivet's class to be incredibly difficult. Yes, she tries to work with you the best way possible, however, she has high expectations and gives out tests that are extremely complex. I would recommend a different french teacher who is more patient and understanding.

Madame Nivet was the sweetest and most helpful French teacher I have ever had! My only complaint is that the class can be a little dull at times, but as long as you do the work and study for the tests you'l do great!

She's very helpful and nice! Participation is important cause she will like you and will help in correct your mistakes. Chapter tests instead of midterms, 2 oral exams, chapter packets from the book due every chapter, and a final. Test are wirtten in a clear manner with pictures and word banks sometimes. Easy A if you do all the work.

Madame Nivet is one of the better French teachers at SBCC. I felt like her teaching was very clear, but a little dry at times. It is not a particularly fun class, but if you show up to class, do the homework, and study for a final, it is easy to get an A and you will successfully learn basic french!

Took 103 & 104 with her. Hate that it's self-paced, but oh well. DO ALL THE WORK. Seriously. Start early and just beast through the workbook. Easy points, but time-consuming. Also, go through the review before every test. They pretty much mirror the tests. She's really great, but can get a bit irritable sometimes.

She is so nice and helpful. I can see some people might think she is rude or doesn't like to explain some things, but that might be just her French side. She usually skips only things like 'why languages are crazy?' but her class is really fun, and she sometimes even brings french goodies to class such as fromage, and chocolat yum yumm. The best

Madame Nivet is a spunky little old french woman with a great heart. She stuck to the book and taught fairly well although i did feel she was a little irritable when asked questions. The tests and quizzes aren't that bad, i never did any HW and ended up w/ a C. Her grading is very by-the-book and u can see ur grade online as the semester progresses

If you want to learn french by someone who is a patient, optimistic, and helpful then I suggest you choose another professor. Nivet tends to belittle her pupils in class instead of actually helping them learn the language. She rushes through textbook exercises/exams and becomes clearly irritable if she has to explain or repeat herself twice.

SHe is pretty nice and a enthusiastic teacher. People who say that she either changed to a good teacher, or all your negetive rating is wrong. She gives all the resources you need, tutoring, after school, etc etc. You would have to be really lazy or stupid use everything opportuntiy and still get low grade

Rude, Rude, Rude! Likes to fill up class time with activities that are simply not helpful for the student who is trying to learn French. I think this lady is here for a paycheck and the opportunity to exercise power and agression. Avoid at all costs if you want to leave this class with an appreciation for the French people or their language.

I've taken French a couple of times in my career as a student, and she's by far the best French instructor I've had. Regarding the negative evaluations, true, the class isn't always "exciting," but learning a foreign language isn't like going to a rave: a lot of it is rote, mechanical work.

Hard grader. Needed better tutoring support because the class is difficult. Many people dropped out or got poor grades and decided to take the class again over the summer.
