Pretty boring at times. Lectures can make your mind wander away from the class. Tests were difficult for me to follow. Got C's on the first 3 test and had a 75 Average going into the final. Came out with a B in the end so I'm pleased. The final was on 2 books that you have to read or you won't pass the final. Essay question on final too.

Drink lots of coffee before class since he will put you to sleep at times. He moves fast, but if you keep up with the readings you should have no major issues. He gives ample extra-credit opportunities through films, meals, etc.. He specializes in South Asia and has some great stories of his years in Pakistan and India.

Dr. Murphy's one of the best teachers that you'll ever run across. I've had him for four classes, now, and he just keeps getting better. Show up, put forth a little effort, you'll make an A and, you know, learn stuff. At college. What a thought. Hilarious stories and a really decent person.

Dr. Murphy is really nice but really boring. I had him at 8:30 and it about killed me. The class wasn't hard, I only went about 5 times total and he let me take the exam early. Pretty easy to work with.

hands out preprinted notes (even for upper division classes), so you can really pay attention to what he says in class. if he assigns reading from the library, read it -- it'll be on a test or quiz. Great professor!!

Awesome guy, tells the funniest stories and gives the best examples. His class is pretty easy if you just pay attention to what he's saying. He really made the subject appealing.

Pretty easy. Make sure you read. Only a few test, go to the class that's where half the questions come from. Overall not bad read and take notes and you can get a B.

Mr. Murphy is a very nice respectable man, but...he talks soooo fast that it's hard to take any notes. He doesn't take into consideration that not everyone knows about what he's teaching. I am in his class now and I am totally lost. The only thing I understood were the primates.

his upper level classes are tougher than his intro ones-but what do you expect-this man KNOWS his stuff. he is scholarly and seems a bit reserved at first, but is always ready to listen and he seems very kind. NEVER puts people on the spot or is rude.

He's an interesting and reasonable guy. Tests are somewhat difficult if you don't show up to class and take notes. It gets boring if you don't like the subject, but he does attempt to make more interesting.

This class isn't as tough as everyone has said, but a tad boring. Of course if you don't enjoy the subject matter, you won't enjoy the class! I like Dr. Murphy but he is a fast talker. Even though the ANTH textbook is optional, I recommend getting it.

unrealistic intellectual expectations of students - this type of lecturing should be to his peers not to teens who barely know how to open a cereal box.
