I took this class 3 years ago and it was (unfortunately) the easiest Econ class I've taken (I'm almost done with the major). Brown is a horrible lecturer, so make sure to read the textbook. The class is what you make out of it on your own time. The midterms were okay but the final was ridiculous. Still I got an A simply because I studied.

Slides and Lecture is worthless, it's all about discussion. I know this because I always fell asleep in lecture (since I ate a big meal right before) and because I could never understand the material on the slides when I looked at them later . . .and yet I still got an A easily.

Plays country music, does pointless demonstrations, uses unnecessarily complicated examples, gives hard tests within short times...try to avoid her class.

This class was pretty boring, she pretty much read off her slides. The tests were semi-difficult.

The textbook and her slides prove much more valuable than lecture. Though you will need to be very self motivated, you can get an A without going to the majority of the lectures (some don't coincide with the text, particularly guest speakers).

Really hard for a an introductory class to econ. Rambles about useless figures and the Fed Reserve. You definetely need to read the book if you want to do well. Lecture is useless she reads off the slides. She isnt very friendly and is very annoying on stage.

Her lectures are boring, and her enthusiasm isn't channeled to the students, even if the class was interesting. I found reading the textbook much more helpful than going to her lectures. The dumbest thing in this class had to be memorizing numbers like GDP per capita for exams.

After having a fantastic econ teacher in high school, she was terrible. I blame it partly on the textbook but she was not much of a teacher. The class was pretty easy though and I thought the final wasn't even that hard.

Reads directly off the powerpoint, so there's no point in going to lecture. She tends to speed through too, so it's really hard to understand. Almost everything I learned was from section. Wouldn't be my first choice for the class...

First female econ prof at cal. *cough* affirmative action *cough*. Had to be continually corrected about basic economic theory. Sad when the students know more than the professor. I really feel her problem is a complete lack of ability. I almost feel sorry for her. Truly an idiot.

She's horrible, take Train. This class gives a very superflous understanding of economics, so in the end you basically learned nothing applicable. Brown's method of teaching is simple reading off lecture slides.

She genuinely cares about her students, however, read directly off slides. Dont go to class! Go to discussion and READ yourself! Takes alot of your own time. Midterms are easy, final is difficult. I say avoid Brown altogether if possible go for Romer (Econ 2). I heard she was good and helpful.
