Good but VERY difficult. Papers were hard. Do the extra credit. She didnt bump me up when I was less than .4% from next letter grade. Interesting class, great lecturer, but hardest thing I've ever done. Worked hard for a B

Claire Waters is a wonderful professor who is fantastic at teaching the Middle Ages in a humorous and engaging way. She is very friendly and approachable and great to meet during office hours. She gives the best feedback and is always happy to help. I definitely recommend taking her class. She is hands down one of the best professors at UC Davis :)

Professor Waters is really a fantastic professor and definitely the best I have had so far at Davis. TA Jason was great too. Supremely knowledgeable, incredibly useful essay feedback, solid lectures (can be a bit dry on occasion), fair grading, and fantastic attitude. Amazing overall. Will definitely try to take at least one of her future classes.

Claire was definitely my favourite lecturer this quarter, she's incredibly knowledgeable about the material and talked the about the texts in a way that made them feel much more accessible (and funny). That said, the class would probably have been quite tough if I hadn't had any previous experience with the middle english, so bear that in mind.

She's such a class act and intellectual. A very smooth class and accommodating as well. She explained everything so well. Gave 4 quizzes about the middle English language of Chaucer. The final was online. She's very helpful through e-mail too.

Really nice and extremely passionate about the subject--unfortunately she was SO knowledgeable that it could be incredibly hard to follow. Rarely uses slides/notes. Midterm and final are easy but somewhat small portion of grade, the papers are much more important.

She is extraordinarily intelligent, extremely nice, helpful, and kind. Considering she went to Harvard, Cambridge, and Northwestern (though she'd never tell you) specifically to study the things you read in class, she brings with her a wealth of knowledge that makes all works covered relatable and truly interesting to read. Definitely take her!

Her expertise makes her english class into one of the dullest history lessons on the medieval period imaginable. Her tests focus more on memorization of history than anything to do with english.

Does her best with a difficult subject matter. If you get the opportunity, go to her office hours--easily one of the most helpful professors I've had. Everyone likes her for a reason. Sign up, but pay attention, and watch out for the pop quiz!

Prof. Waters is absolutely superb. I was scared****less of the material, but her teaching methods were so effective that I was able to understand this difficult reading. I highly recommend this class for English major who are frightened of Middle English (as I was).

She explains the material very well. I recommend getting translated versions of Chaucer off the Inet, because the heavy reading load is nearly impossible otherwise. My least favorite thing about her was using her improvements suggested in office hours and still not getting an "A" on the assignment

Doesn't quite balance the assigned workload very well for a quarter schedule... Very heavy loads of reading make it difficult to absorb information and stay on track throughout the quarter. Lectures are interesting. Office hours aren't very helpful.
