Comment:
Crepeau is pretty much a friendly Mad Scientist. Take him if you are very interested in the course material, and be ready for some very heavy and abstract computational theory. He's extremely funny and kind, but don't believe for a second that his exams won't be brutal. Take him if you absolutely love CS, if you have any doubts then don't.

A nice guy, he explains the concepts clearly and is available for students outside the class. I took COMP 547B with him in Winter 2018 and it was one of the best and most enjoyable courses I took in McGill. He gives many challenging assignments which, in the end, helps you understand the material really well

if you think open book exams will be easy, you are wrong. not a good lecturer either, often pause and read the slides before explaining to everyone/read off a bunch words/screenshots he cropped from textbook on the slides

The course is one of the most interesting courses I have ever taken at McGill. It really opened up my mind. The concepts themselves were very abstract, but they were well explained in the lectures, and plenty of examples were given. Dr. Crepeau cares a lot about the success of his students. Looking forward to taking cryptography next year with him.

There are better profs to take comp 250 with. His assignments are undoable if you are not already familiar with the subject. Curves hard though.

He is somehow weird, and hard to figure out what he is saying. Not nice. French style. If you want to touch the real algorithm, stay away from him. What he teaches is not real algorithm, is math.

Claude is a great personality. He's very responsive on Facebook and he cares about his students. In terms of teaching he just follows the textbook very closely (Tardos, Kleinberg), which is a great book so if you don't follow his lectures you have another resource. What's true is that his assignments are bananas. Each one takes 30+ hours.

He is a nice guy. He answers your questions and he is available after class. His course is obviously difficult and he gives challenging exercises-what is expected. He also has an erdos number of 3 or 2, I am not sure. He is smart and he can help you; he is friendly too.

AVOID! Lecture super useless, and unrelated to the assignment that he gives us. He said so himself that he just copy past his lecture and assignment from internet. His assignments are super not clear, so even the TA cant help you. And unless you go to his office hour a day before, he wont even know what is the assignment is.(happened to me)

COMP 250 is the most important course in computer science and covers the groundwork of the theoretical computer science every CS major/minor needs. Claude Crepeau knows that clearly and you can feel he wants to cover as much as possible. But he miss some important points and waste too much time in no relevant topics. Take Micheal Langer if possible

Assignments can be long but he gives very generous partial credit and very easy exams. Also there are bonus questions on assignments. He makes a huge effort to make assignments entertaining and fun. He constantly has office hours and is very helpful in them. I wish he gave lectures using a chalkboard but his slides werent bad. Overall great course!

His notes are clear but his slides are hard to understand, and during lectures his explanations aren't so clear. Most of his lectures consist of him reading off the slides with some minimal explanation, so prepare to teach yourself! The first assignment this semester was very hard compared to the material we'd learned, but they got more fair.

Crepeau genuinely thinks you are going to enjoy his assignments. However, they are not clear, extremely difficult and time-consuming, and not relevant to what is supposed to be thought in the course. He is a researcher, not a teacher and this is very noticeable.

Crepeau is a nice guy but such a terrible prof. He is a genius, that is sure, the guy does quantum teleportation and cryptography. However, his assignments are cryptic, makes it seem like a 400-level assignments when it's just an intro class. Sometimes, he teaches stuff that is simply irrelevant. I would say avoid for this class at all cost !!!!

Honestly I came to this class with the best expectations just knowing the material from the prereq. course where I had a solid A. The assignments are impossibly hard and the midterm average was a disappointing low 50's. There seemed to be no connection between lectures assignments and test material as the prof admitted to doing everything on thefly

seriously 2.4 is overrating for him. I took 250 with him and the assignments are ridiculously hard for people only had programming background in 202... I didn't learn any thing from the the stuff he explains in class... He is extremely arrogant since we are not as smart as him...

he does not understand what the word introduction means. This is a 200 level course and he teaches it like his 500+ level courses. very cryptic in his teaching style no pun intended, and the assignments are gonna take up all your time. More than the allotted amount of time at most we can have. The TA's weren't ready, 90% of the class isn't. u wontb
