I was challenged to really think in this class. I've never had a professor who encouraged such group participation. He gave me a desire to impress him and go above and beyond instead of just do as much as I had to do got get by. In other words, he inspired me to learn. Loved this class because of this professor!

The only good thing about this class is it only last a semester. I dread going. He isn't clear, he wants you to struggle, and he loves to pick out a few people to basically harass. He's not as smart as he likes to think, and he can't hear/understand a thing. My least favorite professor at Marshall.

Great professor. Curves everything. The only way to do bad is to not take notes, study, or show up. He is strict (he will tell you in front of the class to get your phone out of his sight), so if you enjoy paying thousands of dollars to sit on Facebook forget it. As long as you show up, take notes, study, and READ you should get at least a B.

A GREAT PROFESSOR!! The class was difficult and it challenges you in many different ways. If you need help, he will help. I needed help with other classes and he met with me three different times to help. If you read and listen to him, you'll get it. It is a religion class, so expect to discuss religion and have A LOT of thought involved. FANTASTIC

Very sweet man, not such a great professor. Goes off on tangents a lot, not clear on the material or what you're expected to read or know. Just not great. Ihad to drop it because my grade in there was low. There's almost no grades in that class.

This man is one of the most intelligent and brilliant men I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He really does expect the most out of his students, and he wants them to learn and be passionate about the material. He is very difficult, so don't expect an easy A. However, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him.

Good class. He is a mildly strange prof, but is smart in his field. He is just a little quirky in the way he teaches and acts, but is challenging. I would highly recommend, but be prepared to work!

Great prof. he is a little different in his nature as a person, but i think he is highly knowledgeable of his topic. He seems to not care at the end of the semester. He communicates well with the class on how they want the tests. Test are challenging and rightly should be! Overall a good prof., just mildly strange. Also somewhat deaf.

This teacher is terrible. He lectures about things that have nothing to do with the book. He goes off on tangents that connect very little to the class. He is in his own little world. Tests are really hard. He gives no help with what will be on test. Actually for the final he said there would be a variety of question types, however, he decided to g

To anyone expecting to learn specifics of each religion, forget it! Lectures in class are very broad. Books read are on ethnographic studies of specific congregations. I learned A LOT in this class and Professor McNearney is very intelligent. Not recommended for anyone who wants to sleep in class, as he will address u in front of the class. A+ Prof

One of the harder classes I have taken. Class is structured around discussion of boring reading material, and even if you read it's almost impossible to follow and understand the material he presents in class. He speaks on a very high level and about fairly philosophical topics. He expects alot out of students. Field work...let's not go there.

Clay is not a bad person, however, it seems as though he takes pleasure in your struggles with his class. Extremely inconvenient, regular fieldwork study. Don't take this class, especially if you can't have every Sunday morning free for fieldwork.

I got an A. I only visited my church 4 times. I BS'ed my journal, but filled up about 1.5 notebooks. I missed 3 classes, but i pretended to pay attention in class. I didn't really earn my A.

Clay is a great prof.He can be a little rude, but his 10 church visits assignment was thoroughly rewarding. DON"T VISIT YOUR OWN CHURCH!!!You learn a lot about similarities in different religions- worthwhile!!!

Dr. McNearney is a very intelligent man with great insight. He's upfront and truthful and will embarrass you if you say something stupid, but he's funny about it. Don't take him if you don't like reading or discussing things aloud. His classes are seminar-based. People that dont like him are usually pansies anyway.
