Comment:
Fant is very knowledgeable but comes off as an stuck up elitist. While enthralling with interesting episodes in Roman history, like many modern liberal professors he has moral confusion when excusing what today would pass as psychopathy. Arrogance and narcissism notwithstanding he does a relatively good job at teaching.

Dr. Fant is a wise and knowledgable professor. He's very kind, willingly to help and guide you through all the projects and papers. He goes off track sometimes, but he would stop and clarify anything you are not clear. He fancy on Roman stuff than Greek. Exams are not bad and you will get an A easily if you show up in class and take notes!

He is not a good teacher. You can't follow what he does because he is unclear on things and he does not help students. His grading criteria are almost impossible to follow and he expects you to just know what is going on. Anyone could fall asleep during his pointless lectures. I would not recommend taking.

Comment:
He is a horrible teacher. He mixed up the myths and looked to students to make sure he was correct. He would get off topic a lot and the tests are hard to study for. He is beyond boring during lectures and I absolutely hated this class. We wrote an essay over a month ago and he hasn't even graded it yet. So disorganized. DONT TAKE THIS WITH HIM

Fant had a lot of reading assigned every night. You didn't necessarily need to do it but you would be lost in class if you did not do it. There were only 3 papers for the class. He and his TA were very tough graders and marked points off for very not including minor details but were angry if you went over 1 or 2 pages. The requirements were unclear

He has assigned reading every night. You don't necessarily need to do it but you will not know what he is talking about in class. He is an extremely tough grader. There were no tests only a few papers.

The class material that was tested was not covered in class. Through hard work I got a good grade, however this was one of my hardest classes the semester I took it.

Dr. Fant is easy going and relaxed. Not worried about time or how much we covered. Assignments do not have specific requirements but do a little extra, draw pictures, write a bit and you will get an A. There are no in class tests and the midterm/final were not too hard with very generic essay questions. Easy 3 credit class for distribution.

Doesn't...grade on time(you'll get grades 7+ weeks into the semester if your lucky),waits until the last minute to give stuff back, grade consistently (even on the same turn in of an assignment), rarely seems to write his own lectures, prefers student presentations for majority of the semester. Overall, her ruined the subject for me. Subject ruined.

Very knowledgeable and kind. Pretty easy-going. Not entirely clear about what he wants in the assignments. I didn't read a single chapter, but I took good, detailed notes (including drawings) and I aced the midterm. Ask questions and you'll get more information. I enjoyed his class

Sports and Society in Ancient Greece and Rome. Definitely not an exhilerating class, but not bad. Dr. Fant was dry lecturer but the notes were on springboard and you can take the test twice. He gladly answered any questions if we were confused. Very knowledgable about ancient sports. Go to class and ask questions and it will be fine :)

Fant definitely knows his subject but as a graduate student under him you rapidly realize he is an elitist snob with a super inflated ego. I found him interesting nonetheless. If I had to do it over again I would have chosen a different course of specialization. All too typical among college professors is that they are super opinionated

Roman Republic- Nice because he misses class unannounced more than 5 times this year, also a nice guy. TERRIBLE instructor; VERY unclear on what he wants on papers, and tests, forgets to teach things which he asks on tests & unfairly grades you on. EXTREMELY boring tone to class (talks & acts like Ben Stein) Makes an interesting subject a bore!
