Harris' teaching style is different from what most. But it serves you VERY WELL later in your career. You discover how to learn efficiently and figure out what your REAL questions/hangups are. O-chem with Harris was one of the most beneficial classes I took to prepare me for grad school - I now have a PhD, and still love organic chemistry.

Harris is a great teacher. His style is different than most but it allows you to learn as much as possible in the short semester. He is always willing to help. If you don't do well in his class, it's because you didn't try hard enough. He will sit and go through material with you until you understand it forward and backward.

He is caring and funny and an awesome person. His teaching style isn't for everybody though. I found the class excruciating because I am poor in my mathematical skill, but he was constantly reassuring me and really cares about the students. Its a read the book, do the homework then come with questions style, so prospective students be aware.

He likes to help you with as many problems he can. He doesn't make me feel stupid about asking questions and is very encouraging. But one important thing about Harris is his different teaching style. He has u read the text and do problems prior to class which isnt the traditional lecture style. If u like reading the text before class then hes for u

Harris worked us hard, but made it fun and very challenging. The amount I learned in this course exceeded anything I've done in grad school so far. The MCAT was an absolute breeze after Harris. If you have the option, take Harris, take on the challenge, and give him hell!

I was in his summer O-chem in Eugene. Harris is one of the best profs I've had in my school career. He worked us really hard, but was incredibly fair about testing and grading. He put tricky material on his tests, but always showed it to us beforehand. Excellent humor. This class was the most formative of my education to date. Highly recommend!

Harris, I swear to God you made me so angry. You're very helpful and your teaching ethic isn't the best but it pushes for your students to really learn the material, but your final was absolutely ridiculous for Chemistry 121 this year. Make your own final because each professor words questions different ways.

Fun Guy, his teaching style just didn't work for me. Good teacher for many, but I had a hard time. His lectures weren't very clear and he expected you to be able to teach yourself first and ask questions second. I can't work like that.

Definitely take him for Organic Lab, if you can. Hilarious, and it's easy to do well and learn in his lab. Tells hilarious stories and makes lab fun, and is willing to help with anything. However I've seen people that take him for lecture don't do as well without him 2nd semester.
