In 1972, Clyde McConnell was my Fine Art Studio Professor. Although at the time, misunderstood his intent which was to think out of the box & take responsibility for my artistic & intellectual potential thereby escaping bonds of housewifery So 34 years later, Clyde's insightful gift of freedom resonates!

i really enjoyed him as a instructor for film photography course, he is a hard marker since he has been doing photography his whole life. you have to make sure that you show him that you are working hard in his class to get a good mark. he also let his student use his other old cameras which is really nice.

He is always out of class and gives unclear set of instructions. What irked me the most was the fact that he would tell you that "you're doing it wrong" and then walk away without any constructive suggestion(s).

Clyde taught me to think outside the box. I learned an immeasurable amount in his classes about art history and also about formatting research papers-important if you ever want to be published. To get a good grade you have to make an effort and I suggest using his generous office hours to get extra advice. He is very kind and generous with his time

I began the course with a decent amt of prior digital photo knowledge, but clueless in film photography. I asked him for help and he bluntly said, "No." I was unable to attend a couple classes due to illness and he held it against me for the rest of the term. I put in a lot of time and effort into my work and only received a C+.

-AVOID AT ALL COSTS, he is awkward to approach, extremely unhelpful with everything and midterms/final are marked way too subjectively to his liking. Defs tried to work hard in this class, but received nothing in turn. (I usually just read this site to take advice from it, but im going out of my way to write this....)

Clyde expects you to work. he is enthusiastic about the subject matter. relates other issues that are not immediately connected upon once looking at. a true professor that expects you to read material and apply that knowledge in class. if you don't have an inkling of an idea, then he isn't

Unorganized teaching style, unclear with course requirements/expectations. Expects you to read his mind. Considers each piece of art as if it is in competition with other student's work (this is how he gives grades). He focuses on details rather than the big picture so you never have a clue what is going on in class. Gets frustrated easily.

Terrible experience taking this class. He is very unclear with what he excepts, seems unorganized, and did not have a course outline to give to the class. I learned very little. Also did not want to help me when I asked for help in the class.

OMG... I dont know what a movie about a baroque composer, or an article from the new yorker about new york modernism has to do with impressionist painter in Europe but I think if he knew what he was talking about he would spend more than 25% of the time talking about the course material... absolutely boring and utterly pointless.

Here is the problem with Clyde, he's a nice enough guy but has some serious issues with marking. Firstly, you are graded compared to the rest of your class, in a class where you have art history majors and people who have taken no art history courses kinda of messed to mark on a ranking system. Secondly, you never get a straight answer, if he likes

He's a very nice man, but is a caricature of a pretentious professor. He introduces epic symphonies, photoshop, and a disproportionate amount of unrelated photographs among other random tangents. He will criticize your 2mm incorrect margins, and hypocritically lampoon flowery vocabulary, but all in all will clarify things if you ask him to nicely.

Makes some odd comments on graded papers, critiquing phrase choice more than the actual content. eg, on one of my papers he wrote, "'prior to' is just a pretentious way of saying 'before'". Very frustrating seeing banal comments like that littered over your assignments. Lecture content is limited. Instruction level is poor. Not recommended.
