She is the most caring person. Although I didn't do well on my papers, I did learn a lot from her lectures and class discussions. I like the atmosphere that she encourages everyone to participate and talk about each other's thoughts for New Yorker tales. Highly recommend her.

Quality course and instructor. Most valuable course I took in my 4 years as a finance major. Be engaged and unafraid. This class will make you a better writer if you put forth the effort.

GRADE = 2 papers, 2 exams, participation. Got a B and B+ on both papers. C+ on midterm, probably A or A- on final exam, probably A on participation. Gave me a straight-up (A) for a final grade. Take her.

Professor Hassett. The Best Teacher at Fordham I've had yet. She was the real reason why I decided to minor in English. I took her "The Poet's Choice" class. Such an amazing experience. The poetry she picks is amazing. Your critical reading skills improve. You become a better writer. One of the best in the English Department. 5/5 stars. Love!!

Fantastic professor! Dynamic personality, Diane Keaton in real life! Understanding, intelligent, encouraging, and full of stories! Everyone needs to speak at least once per class. 1 midterm, 1 final, 5 1-page papers, 2 five-page essays. Paper topics were interesting and readings came from The New Yorker Magazine. I'd take her again in a heartbeat!

Professor Hassett is honestly my FAVORITE teacher thusfar at Fordham. I am a science major and was not excited for all of our core requirements, but for her New Yorker Tales, I fell in love with English again. She is beyond nice, helpful and extremely charismatic. Also a very fair grader. Got As on tests and Bs on papers, ended up with an A-.

A very passionate and intelligent professor. She has a quirky kind of approach and she emphasizes class discussion. She's very sweet and doesn't require too much work but can be a little spacey. Interesting course.

Texts & Contexts- Hassett was my Manresa professor and freshman advisor. NYC Writers focuses on contemporary writers, which isn't my thing, but it was still an enjoyable class. Emphasizes discussion. Assigns weekly prompts- not graded but she leaves encouraging comments. Grade based on 2 papers, midterm, and final. Very talkative and open. =)

Hassett is one of those professors that is in love with their subject. She is very approachable with any questions you have. Only problem I can say is you can be a bit unsure as what your grade is in the class and you write a lot (to be expected though).

Dr. Hassett was a great teacher, and I honestly looked forward to her class everyday. She definitely likes to talk A LOT, which can be good or bad - depending on your state at the time. She grades fairly on 2 papers, a midterm and final. Overall, this particular class was not a brain-buster, and it was enjoyable.

Good reading material, she explains them well. Every other class you write up a 1 pg paper on an assigned topic for the reading-either a short story (this yr's book was the O Henry Prize Stories 2005- very good) or poem (Collins' '180 more')- weren't hard reads or write-ups- but she is a hard grader on the midterm & final. there are also 2 papers. dont worry about going to the poetry readings, you don't really have to.

She's a nice lady. One of those professors that loves what she teaches. She can be a misleading grader at times though, meaning that you might think you're doing well when your real grade is a C+. But she's a good enough teacher. Prepare to write. A lot.
