His favorite quotes "think like an economist" and "you should know this, this is high school economics". Funny guy, lots of material to know. You're only allowed to miss 3 classes, if you miss more you fail the class. He makes his classes do a poster which is worth 40%.

Was by far the best class I had at UVic. While he does have controversial viewpoints he is willing to talk about them and engage you with them. I highly recommend this class and van Kooten is the man for Ag. Econ.

Interesting class, he doesn't believe in anthropogenic global warming which leads to interesting debates. He knows his material very well and has extremely good facts. His class however was a bit hazy and confusing between energy, economics, science, and climate. Has 2 pop quizzes worth 7% each. The economics can get quite complex in this course.

Arrogant and Condescending are two words that come to mind. Lectures on and references high level econometrics in a 300 level elective that non-econ majors can take. Why? Does he think we are going to enjoy it? Proof that really smart ppl do not always make good profs.

really awful!!!Van Kooten may actually be the world's biggest jerk, and certainly is the worst prof from Holland. His own written textbook is a piece of crap and his lectures follow no logical order. Makes students feel dumb outside of class and is never available or willing to help.
