this was on of the hardest classes ever and it was a 101 level class..he skips around alot and doesnt explain things at all. when i asked him for help he never gave me any. his test are very hard and it doesnt help that he doesnt tell you what is going to be on them so all i did was study and i still managed to fail the test

Horrible horrible horrible! I asked him for help over email and he didn't give it to me. He does NOT know how to teach. He has no remorse for anybody, not helpful.. need I go on? Do everything in your power NOT to take him. I've talked to many students and they along with me have to retake the class because of him. Horrible professor!

Great professor, really knows how to challenge a student. He is willing to give you the information that he uses in class, such as his power point lectures. If you want to do well in his class you actually have to try. Study the power points, read the related chapters and you should be fine.

I had him for human bio the class was a 101 level class and he taught it like everyone was a bio major. the tests are hard. he gives you a diagram of the heart and other sections of the body with 30 blanks and expects you to fill it in with out a word bank. His teaching style is unorganized and he jumps around a lot. don't even bother taking him.

A really nice guy, but tests are extremely hard for being an introductory Human Bio class. He's real shady about what's on his tests and does not review at all. I would avoid him if you have the chance.

The previous entry is dead on! Exams are beyond brutal - simply impossible. All I did was study and still managed to fail. Homeworks are simple. All powerpoint notes, which is difficult. Book is mainly used for definitions. Dr. VanBell is a great guy though with a fun sense of humor. If this class wasn't manditory I would NEVER take the class.

Van Bell has dry/sarcastic sense of humor. Lectures are all PP slideshows and can be dry. Occasional HW, not bad. Exams are brutal, usually covers 3-5 Chapters per exam. Recommend reading chapters in text. Labs are fairly "Mickey Mouse." No lab reports. I earned a low "A" based on points, though Van Bell thought otherwise. Also, presentation on journal article at end of semester. Supposedly extra points/bonus, but seemed more required.
