Dr. Settje is great, though he's unfortunately teaching less and less history courses now. Tests are simple, read the chapter and take notes on the lectures. One essay question from each. There are many reading quizzes to help boost your grade. No essays, at least not for HIS 1500.

35 chapter book and you read them all, but you get to take notes that you can use on each essay exam. He's a great interesting lecturer, but you must take notes because the tests are based on your notes from the book and his lectures. He's wiley, knowledgeable, fun, a great story teller and in his own way, especially cute.

The structure of this course was not my favorite. Exams were a pair of essays that were hard to prepare for because of the amount of content. Read read read. Do the summaries. Quizzes are often but you never really know when they are coming. Go to class to take the quizzes. I would study and prepare with others if I had to do it again.

Literally read the textbook cover to cover minus the last chapter. This guy really knows his stuff but the class required a lot of work. Needless to say I learned a lot. I recommend taking his history classes when you don't take a lot of credit hours in a semester because you will need to dedicate a lot time to this class. Funny guy too.

i had him for arts & ideas, it was a really good class. you have to do the reading which is a lot, but they're pretty good. he was very helpful if i had an issue with something. there was a lot of outside work, but it was fun. overall, it was a good class.

This man raises the quality of higher education back to what I expected it should be before I arrived. Yes, he makes you work but is reasonable If you don't want to at least read the material why are you going to school anyway? He is without doubt the clearest and most interesting lecturer I have encountered yet. I felt smarter after every class.

his class requires work, but you can pass it. Just go to class with the chapter(s) read and pass the easy quizzes. This class is made interesting by Settje, because he (somehow) gets your attention and makes lectures enjoyable. Ive never passed a history class and am pretty confident Ill have a B.

Decent professor. Very liberal and will teach the history from his liberal viewpoint which is often very one sided and sometimes downright inacurate. Also, the books he assigns are often the liberal equivalent of Ann Coulter. However, he does not give conservative students a hard time but rather welcomes their voices.

He makes you work for your grade, but it's not impossible to do well in the class. Reading the text is a must to pass, the supplementary books can be skimmed to write the essay.

One of the only CURF profs who challenges his students. I appreciated that he expected a great deal because he believed we could all deliver. Hardest A I have ever earned, but...I EARNED IT. Thanks Dr. S!
