Comment:
Super knowledgeable prof, very involved in current global migration discussions and combined course material with relevant and entertaining personal anecdotes. Really enjoyed his lectures, but the course is definitely NOT a GPA booster - even as a typically strong student I struggled with the assignments and the sheer volume of material to absorb.

Professor Hiebert is, on the one hand, a very nice individual, but is fairly arrogant and loves to talk about himself. As a result, a lot of the lectures were hard to follow. On top of this, he does not describe his assignments very well, making it difficult to do well on the 2 assignments that make up a majority of the marks.

He's a very sweet individual. I really admire his patience because Statistics isn't the easiest subject to teach. I'm not sure if he makes Stats understandable, but then again, numbers are absolutely soo not my thing. He cares about student performance and is very approachable.

Worst subject but Hiebert made it SO good. Not saying I like stats, I still hate them. He is engaging and makes the material easy to comprehend. Easy to talk to, not at all intimidating and very likeable. Makes the class bearable and since its sometimes a requirement I recommend him highly. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS and will do anything to help you!

Great professor and an interesting course. Don't know why anyone would take this for the purposes of their gpa, it shouldn't be about that.

Hiebert is interesting and informed. Economic-heavy approach to immigration =not open & parochial. Impersonal and rather conceited (gets annoyed when I corrected him in class). Marks speedily (which can be a good or bad thing). Not a good course to take to bolster GPA. If you still want to take it, make sure you know your stuff!

Awesome! Inspired me to continue on in human geography...although in the economic side of things. Was very nice and open and thoughtful. He also knows what he's talking about.

Hard but fair marker, he's passionate about what he teaches and that helps make it interesting, but he can get bogged down in institutional facts and figures that students aren't likely to remember. Not that he expects you to, but it can be dry. Glad I took his class.

Professor Hiebert is very knowledgeable and engaging lecture. Nonetheless, he is an arrogant prof so be prepared for him to talk a lot about himself and to be busy for office hours. The current events is very relevant to the course but it does add a lot more material to absorb into your mind. Tough marker but makes the course fun and in-depth.

I loved loved loved Dan Hiebert! One of the better FDNS profs. He wasn't the type of prof to give a 'show' or anything, he was just there to give you his lecture in an organized and clear way. Mind you, he loves to give lots of facts and examples-that can be overwhelming. I'm glad it was a first yr class.. Very humble and down to earth. Go dan!

Very intelligent. Delivers well prepared and intellectual lectures. I think this stuff was a bit over my head as a first year. Funny at times and really lets students talk too. Not self-centred like other 103 prof....this prof I much enjoyed listening to.

Dr. Hiebert is brilliant and a leading expert on immigration. He has access to all of the latest developments in the field and presents his knowledge very well. He is a fascinating man and a great teacher and I would happily take anything he was teaching.
