Davis is a great professor & a genuine person. I wouldn't recommend if it is not required for your program. Classes felt like a waste, some quiz questions felt so weird even if they were open book online, you waste time looking up answers & end up taking a guess. Curve was very minuscule for the quizzes & strict on citations. I wouldn't retake!

Dr. Davis is the BEST Instructor at U of M!!! He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the English language. He knows his material very well! His lectures and maps are amazing! You will learn way beyond the textbook. He is willing to give you his time to help you understand the subject and love the language. Highly Recommended! I LOVE him!!!

This is my favorite professor at UMD. He always makes class fun and exciting. It is impossible to not feel happy during his class. Also, all of his classes are extremely interesting. If you have the chance to take any of his classes do so, it is an experience.

This guy is fantastic. He's a linguistic genius exploding with personality and humor. The material couldn't be more dry and yet somehow he makes it a pleasure to be in class, drawing students into his discussions. Excellent professor!

Professor Davis is awesome!! Though he keeps the classes on track with the book, he clearly knows the material backwards and forwards. The quiz questions come from the book too! He gets very excited during lecture about the topics and makes himself available to the students for questions or advise on the one required paper. Take his class!!

Funny guy, curves generously. All quizzes were open open book or open note. 1 project that's simple and easy. If you have to take this class or need a filler class def take him. I would take another one of his classes because he's such a easy teacher.

The guy is an amazing Prof. Absolutely Love the guy! Never seen a prof. who has so much passion, and eagerness to teach and learn as well. I took both Ling 461, and 482 with him, and I got to say I learned a lot from him. He is a must take!!!! I would take him in a heart beat!

One of the most fantastic teachers you will ever have the pleasure of sitting for. I love this man's passion for linguistics and I never thought the history of linguistics would be so interesting to me. This man knows his stuff and he gets really excited with students interact. Easy A but more importantly you will learn and have fun doing it.
