I had this professor for Shakespeare I. I love Shakespeare. I know Shakespeare- Do not take his class! He is more interested in proving his own knowledge of the subject than teaching his students or conducting a reasonably comprehensible class. If you have to take this class, just regurgitate his lectures back to him in quizes and you should be ok.

Seven years have passed and I still have nightmares about his classes. I was a senior at the time and had earned nothing but A's in literature classes. I was given a C for his class but his criteria seemed arbitrary - according to my calculations, I had a 34 average. Hurley's arrogance is unsurpassable and his classroom persona unforgivable.

A first class jack(ASS). Uses his position to better his own ego. Select a different prof if you intend to learn the subject matter. Loves to pick on students. Could only function in the academic world.

i didn't do too poorly in his class but there are quizzes everyday and i did not learn anything. it was basically him talking at the class. and he talks A LOT and talks through the quizzes which makes it hard to concentrate. did not enjoy the class at all.

What an interesting character. Reading is mandatory and failing to read closely will result in a poor overall grade. Quizzes are given daily and are based off of the reading assignments. He tends to ramble, but he definitely knows his stuff. Read the material and you'll likely do fine.

I'm from the Class of '81, but I just had to put in my two cents....he was one of the best professors I ever had. He's intelligent, insightful, funny and thought-provoking. I still have fond memories of his classes (I took all I could while I was there.) He's an Appalachian gem!

"Prof Dan" (as he occasionally refers to himself) is an unbelievably intelligent and insightful teacher. Best professor I've ever had. If you are looking for an easy A, I don't recommend that you take him...but I also don't recommend that you major in English if you aren't willing to put forth the effort that he requires.

I had Dr. Hurlery for Intro to Lit and American Lit. There is reading assigned every night and a quiz every day but thats really your only work. Quizzes are challenging but go to class and read carefully and you'll do fine. Hurley's comments are incredibly insightful and he points out things you never would have realized on your own. Great Prof!

Not an easy teacher. Brilliant, but arrogant and often talks way over your head. Daily quizzes are impossible, even if you have read what you were supposed to. However, he is willing to help you if you go the extra mile, and you will learn something about the content whether you want to or not.

Very challenging class. Theres is a quiz every day on a reading. The questions are pretty hard because he asks you things that you would never even think of. Every single story we read he relates to sex, or republicans, or both. Dont take this class if you are looking for an Easy A.

What an amazing professor! He has the most insightful comments about the texts. Very witty and clever. As long as you read the plays and make a conscious effort to learn how to scan, you'll do well in the class. I've never appreciated Shakespeare this much until this year. If you pay attention in class, he'll keep you laughing.

I dropped the class midway through because I could not take one more minute. I find Dr. Hurley to be arrogant, unhelpful, and ****. I often get along with most teachers, but this was one I felt very strongly against. Girls...have fun with the sexual references every class period!!!
