Comment:

Never had him for comp sci, but for ballroom, he was amazing. I can't dance and am incredibly clumsy, but the man taught me to dance like a butterfly. It was hard at times, but he made the class fun and all of us in to dancers! He and his wife are a great teaching duo (the banter is hilarious), and outside of class they're a hoot!

He thinks everyone knows what to do in an intro class and makes everything ten times harder than it should be. He is horrible at explaining things and is not very helpful when you ask questions.

I really love Darrah for his corkiness and his personality. His lectures are incredibly boring though, and he sometimes confuses students more by explaining it. Even though his class should be easy, he makes it twenty times more difficult.

I've never had Darrah for a math class, but as a ball room dance teacher he's amazing. He's friendly and helpful, and even more amazing with ball room dance club. Take his dance class if you get the chance!

This class is ridiculous. The instructions on the homework are often overly convoluted, and he is wickedly demanding about points on homework. Usually, one tiny thing wrong will result in 5 points off. He's not a mean person, he's just an annoying teacher.

This class is supposed to be a joke, but Darrah is the only one who doesn't know it. Homework takes hours and directions are horribly confusing. It's hard to know what he wants, and he'll give you bad grades if he feels like it. Wait until the next year to take it with the other professor (they alternate).

back in the late 90s, darrah was our club sponsor for ballroom dance.. and i thought it would be fun to get him to teach a class on it since none was being offered.. he certainly knows what he is doing! he agreed- even though the college would not pay him or give him campus space! the course definatly met my hopes. if he still teaches, take it!

Positively useless as an intro to programming teacher. I've heard wonderful things about ballroom, that DOES NOT carry over to CS. He didn't use a textbook, and didn't lecture, and didn't explain the material. He threw us to the wolves, and now my entire class is suffering for it.

I recently had a very bad course with Darrah. I loved him as a freshman, but over my time here i have grown to dislike him. I'm angry right now at how bad this course is, and i can only vent here because he didnt even give us couse evaluations to turn in. Note that the course is not Ballroom. Just be carefull when taking courses with Darrah.

while I wasn't really fond of the subject (in terms of my academic goals, it was a waste of my time), darrah was nevertheless a decent teacher, very enthusiastic and approachable. do I recommend the class? no, but if you get a different class with him, you should be fine.

Darrah is really interested in this topic, but sometimes that interest sidetracks him into stories instead of explaining more intricate material. granted, i just suck at math. i love darrah tho, he's still a great prof and is always available to help you out, with school or with life, it doesn't matter.

Again, Darrah can be a bit "lazy" as a prof (i.e. late grading), but he makes up for it with fun stories and very clear standards, and lots of "second chances." He's very understanding, and just very very busy. Also a great dance prof (and dancer!)
