You know all the things they tell you about having a more personal and impactful education though your curricula in the Honors College? Dr. Middleton is the embodiment of that. Take his class if you want to enjoy your religion core credit & truly expand your perspectives on religion & more. A fair amount of work, but worth it in what you gain back

Professor Middleton was a good professor for me, you have to take a good notes on lecture because it will be beneficial for the study guide words, because some of it is not in the book. Overall, a good professor.

Great professor, I found his class very interesting. It is heavy on reading, but that's normal in a religion class. Not a lot of assignments, 5 pop quizzes, 3 exams, and a research paper. Pop quizzes come straight from the handouts and he answers any questions over exam reviews.

He made the Africa class relevant. Lots of reading, tons of writing, but an A is doable if you work hard and work with him. White guy with amazing passion for Africa and African diaspora, smart as well.

Dr. Middleton is one of the smartest men you'll ever meet, and a genuinely good guy. His class is TOUGH, and he's a heavy grader in terms of participation and writing. Reading quizzes tank your confidence early, and there is a ton of reading, but pulling some form of an A is manageable if you do well on the tests and one paper.

Dr. Middleton is an amazing person and obviously VERY intelligent, but his class is really difficult. I understand for an honors course it will be harder than others but sometimes the homework assignments were just too much. Discussion based class but not much room for participation from students. Interesting topic just not a very beneficial class

I also took the religion and popular culture class, where he left lots of room for many voices. And popular culture has nothing to do with the publication date, it has everything to do with theme, and his themes were topical. He's smart, and I guess that can be intimidating, but if you work for the A you feel entitled to, you earn it.

Comment:
Dr. Middleton taught a religion in popular culture class. Many of the readings were from 2006 or older, not relevant to popular culture. Class participation was a major part of the grade, but he spent most of the class talking and lecturing himself, leaving room for only one or two students to make comments. I would not recommend his classes.

Dr. Middleton is easily the most brilliant professor I've had the privilege of knowing at TCU. Extremely thought-provoking and original. Professors like him make TCU's ridiculous tuition rates worth every penny. I highly recommend!

One of the most outstanding professors at TCU. I really enjoyed listening to his lectures and the way he conveyed each lesson. I would highly recommend taking a course of his before you graduate. His tests are very thorough, however if you go to class and pay attention they are manageable. GREAT PROFESSOR!!!

A kind, curious and enormously inspiring professor. He has an obvious depth of knowledge, yet not a lick of pretension or talk-down haughtiness. He's genuine. He wants you to succeed. Omit him and find yourself lacking!

TAKE MIDDLETON! Africa and the African Diaspora was really hard but pretty interesting. I am NOT usually good at history based classes, but Dr. M made it interesting. SPEAK UP in class. Participation makes up 15% of your grade and it's NOT an easy A. Keep up with the readings and the online forums. TAKE HIM FOR HONOR'S!

Dr. Middleton uses a lot of films and songs to relate the Bible to the contemporary world. He gives study guides and the final is not cumulative. I took his 3 Worlds Class and learned so much! Keep up with the reading and it should be an easy B, an A with some work. Tests are multiple choice, matching, short answer, and an essay.

Dr. Middleton is a fabulous teacher! I Pass/Failed the course because my schedule was so heavy, but I really enjoyed being a part of his class everyday. He is interesting and a great lecturer. He gives study guides, which you should fill out. You should read for his class everyday, too. I learned so much just sitting and taking notes in his class.

AMAZING...He is incredibly helpful and understanding. He loves what he teaches and his british accent makes him fun to listen to. He gives you handouts plus a study guide for each test. Total of five quizzes, three tests (including final, not cumulative), and a paper. TAKE HIM FOR YOUR RELIGION CREDIT!!!!!

Religion in Society and Culture Through Documentaries. It's not often offered at TCU, but if it ever is, jump on it. The best class I've ever taken. Satisfied my core credit and it was one night a week, we just watched movies and heard his say profoundly wise things in his charming accent. Plus, he calls you his "poppets." YES.
