A good professor. Remember to ask questions and wrong answers in office hours and get an easy A. Recitation highly needed cause half the course is about the history of astronomy!

50% cumulative final and it is no joke- attendance is not mandatory and role is not taken but most materials are lecture heavy. Do not recommend unless you really LOVE physics

Prof Buote goes out of his way to show demonstrations to help students understand the concepts he is teaching, and that is something I appreciated about him. Quizzes are pretty straightforward. Attendance is not recorded neither in lecture or discussion.

Clearly interested in what he's talking about, but I often found it boring and hard to pay attention to in the way he taught it. Taught primarily with white board demonstrations, so showing up to class is a must. Generously curves everything, but it can be difficult to get a good grade in the class without the curve.

Nice professor but his lectures are dull and boring. He's passionate about the subject but he tends to rush through lectures especially during the last 5 minutes of class. His tests were difficult but he grades on a curve.

It was my most favorite one out of all the classes I took this quarter. Most of the material is covered in lectures. He strongly recommends reading the book and answering the homework questions which are covered in discussions, even though we don't receive grades for doing it. However, you will need it for the exams/quizzes

I had Professor Buote for Intro to Astronomy. Although he was an extremely nice guy, I could not follow his lectures (maybe b/c the subject was pretty boring). If you do the readings that he recommends, then you should be able to pass the class. His midterm and final contained some unexpected questions, but at least he curved everything.

WORST TEACHER I've ever had. spent the entire class deriving formulas, he does not teach PHYSICS. The problems on his midterm/final are ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! AVOID

His homework is somewhat difficult so it requires you to do additional practice to do well on his quizzes. His final is cummulative so it is quite difficult. If you aren't willing to put in extra effort for this class, don't enroll. Also, he doesn't post up his lectures online so you HAVE to go to get his notes.

His quizes were hard, the tutoring room really helped. The curve on the exams was insaneeee average on the final was 37/100 and midterm 41/100 sooo if u study and get half right...your set on an acceptable grade...pretty boring lectures and he spent way to much time doing proofs and not example problems : /

He has sloppy writing and isn't very good at keeping people awake at 8 oclock in the morning. The tutoring room helps. Exams are tough, but the curve helps... a lot!

He is the worst teacher ever!! His lectures are irrelevent to his quizzes and midterms. He is too focused on the concept and conventions of physics to actually teach. NO PRACTICE MIDTERM. And he is pretty boring!

He was a fairly good professor. His writing is very sloppy and sometimes he is hard to follow cuz he's all over the place, but his tests weren't that hard if you study.

Had no idea how to organize the class or LEC. Mr. Ambiguous (didn't feel as if he really knew what he was teaching). The students and him were learning at the same time, not good for physics.
