A caring and enthusiastic prof! While the criteria for projects like the creative project were vague (no rubric or anything), you will get a high mark if you participate in class and put effort into your work. He is a master at making your ideas seem profound during class discussion- you will never feel awkward for participating in lectures.

David was my favourite professor this semester, he was not my TA unfortunately as I really enjoyed discussing the texts with him. My only regret was that it was a 100 level class as I felt the material was so amazing we would have had plenty of material to delve in deeper with. He is very encouraging and I would 100% take another of his classes.

Awesome teacher. I couldn't possibly recommend him more. Especially if you're into creative writing. He gives great advice on how to improve your writing and different things to consider in your own writing.

Best course I took as an undergrad at SFU. Chariandy is extremely insightful, and though soft spoken, most everything he says is engaging and thought provoking. He is great as both an intellectual and a teacher; he makes complex theories intelligible and creates an environment where each student can contribute to class. Gives valuable essayfeedback

His class can be somewhat boring because of the books we read, but it's an interesting course considering everyone gets to express how they feel about each book. David is always very supportive of the answers also. He will never make you feel uncomfortable or unwanted.

Has to be the most boring lectures I've ever attended at SFU. Absolutely wonderful guy though. One on one, he makes everything clear and is extremely helpful in getting you to improve your writing. Such a sweetheart and is very respectful of all of his students. I don't think I heard one negative thing come from his mouth all semester.

David has to be the most soft spoken prof I ever took a class with. But despite his initial shy demeanor, once he gets on a roll, he is interesting, passionate, and funny. It was a pleasure attending lectures and tutorials. And yes, he has great eyes.

This class was a little disappointing. I'd heard great things about him, but his lectures were dry and he never got on the students who never contributed to discussion like he should have(its 3rd yr, you'd better speak up!), no real discussion was had. He was always late 10mins for both lec and tut. ALWAYS. Texts were good. Nice guy though.

SO BORING. His class was a snorefest. I tried to listen to him lecture and although he has some insightful things to say, his voice just puts me to sleep. I'm sorry.

David is obviously interested in his material and what his students have to say about it. He wants you to like his classes and do well. However, he's got a lot going on in his life, and it seemed as if the class was the last thing on his mind. Marking turnaround was a month, guest speakers appeared often, and student presentations led the class.

To say the least, David makes you identify with the material -- it's like you're bound to feel it somewhere in your past history, or present. But once you're there, you discover that post-colonial life is one big pile of complicated, diabolical #### and david is the symbol of this mess. Otherwise, he marks fairly if you parrot the secondary sources

agreed, his quizzes came out of "left field." david should've mentioned them in the course syllabus or several times in the weeks leading up to them. plus, he asked hard questions that i couldn't answer because i forgot to read the books. seriously though, this was a great class and david is a great prof.

David is a good teacher, and an interesting person. Class was never dull. He gives strange quizzes though, they came out of left field and damaged my mark. Otherwise I recommend David highly, just watch out for the quizzes.
