Comment:
Dr. Erwin is a GREAT professor. I like the way he teaches. He'll give you all the notes you'll need to take in class on the first day on a PDF file. If you want to master the material, you NEED to read the book. Overall, I would recommend taking Dr. Erwin's class.

Very vague lectures. Over all grade is only on exams. He is a very loud person, he essentially is yelling at all times. He is very sexist and he just assumes you understand what he is teaching with out him explaining everything to you. tutor will be needed if you don't learn from only writing things down.

Comment:
He isn't that well at lecturing, but the way he runs his class is nice and not at the same time. Homework isn't graded, quizzes are same questions off the homework, and tests are open note. Tests are still pretty hard and he'll find anything to take points off for. It is hard to find the motivation to do homework since it is not graded.

Dr. Erwin is a special case. He is not very good at teaching, but I am still choosing to take him again for Chem. II; this speaks more to the lackluster quality of the department then it does to his abilities. If you can get a file for his classes, I would recommend taking him--otherwise, steer clear.

monotoned. He was always very clear in giving notes, but his tests are very hard. Even though they are open note, it is hard to finish in time and he does not do partial credit. I was able to get 100s on all the quizzes, but did not pass any of the tests. The final is open note but also very hard. Get ready to work.

Dr. Erwin is so enthusiastic about chemistry. He didn't collect the homework, but he gives a quiz with the exact problems the next day. You can probably get away without doing the homework and getting B's. Tests are very difficult and time constrained. Hardest part was finishing. He's always available and makes you feel welcome in his office.

Tests are brutal. He doesn't have graded homework assignments, so if you aren't highly motivated to learn the material yourself you're in trouble. Can't recommend.

Erwin is a more tough professor. His tests can be difficult, but you do get to use your notes and book. He gives very good notes. His lectures can get pretty heated, but they can seem to drag on a little. Quizzes about every week over homework he assigns but isn't due. Sometimes he doesn't give a few quizzes near the end of the quarter.

Comment:
Dr. Erwin teaches in a very clear cut manner. Homework most of the time follows examples taught directly in class, and tests follow problems on the homework. The tests are some what difficult, but if you pay attention in class (his voice is monotone, get some coffee) you'll do fine. He also allows open notes on the tests and final.

Practically no partial credit on tests. Lectures like he teaches at a large university. Constantly yells. Expects the students to know the material before he teaches it.

Dr Erwin doesn't do much teaching in class, he expects you to teach Yourself with the nightly reading and his tests, although they're open note, are pretty tough and take almost if not more than the given class time

Dr. Erwin gives excellent notes, and they can be used on tests and the final. Homework is optional, but he gives a quiz on it, usually with exact questions from the problem sets. His tests are long so you can't rely heavily on your notes if you want to finish the test. He also has help sessions before every test which are extremely helpful.

"He's enthusiastic, but his tests are MISERABLE. It's incredibly frustrating to work through the homework with no problem, and to get counted off so much on quizzes and tests. Also, it's scary to answer a question, he tends to raise his voice a lot and often sounds condescending." I second this comment

Very difficult class. His tests are meant to challenge you. He tries to make it make sense, but only succeeds sometimes. He is very enthusiatic about teaching and will try to help you if you seek it. Overall, he is a good professor; he is just extremely challenging.

Erwin gives very nice notes to you in class, but flys through them. If you have questions, he's always available to help you, but he doesn't know how to explain things very well. He grades hard and his tests are meant to challenge you more than the hw and things covered in class. He also likes to yell when he talks. His class is boring.

Dr. Erwin is an amazing prof. He gives every opportunity to ask for help, including his home phone number. He really pays attention to how the class is doing and won't quiz over material unless a majority of the class gets it. In addition, his quizes are verbadum from the problem sets which he tells you up front.

He was loud and practically screamed at you during lectures. He gave you notes every class which was nice, but he could only explain things the way they were on your notes. If you had a question, he was hardly ever available to answer it and when he was, he did help very much.
