The class was a pleasant experience: lots of facts and anecdotes about the time period. Interesting man, but the TA's were hits and misses. Be wary of them taking this class, but other than that, the class was superb.

Best Professor & lecturer I have ever had, also took American Revolution and Slavery and Civil War. Very balanced and knowledgeable, anyone remotely interested in history or WWII should take his class. Requires effort, but if you do the reading and go to class you will do well and learn and retain more than you ever thought you would.

Best Professor at Brandeis, teaches three main classes: American Revolution, Slavery and the Civil War, and WW II, all excellent if you are interested in History. They are difficult classes with lots of reading, but he is incredibly knowledgeable and always provides multiple interpretations of events. Best Professor & lecturer I have ever had.

any professor who can, in a history lecture, incorporate an explanation of the second derivative (complete with a graph and an explanation of acceleration) to describe historical change is ok in my book. really fantastic lecturer. lives up to and exceeds the hype.

This is an amazing professor. THe hype is actually true with Prof. Fischer. He is a great lecturer and seems to truly care about/help students. Occasionally there is a bit too much reading, but the positives far outweigh any few negatives. Lastly, he was very accomadating to students, having some office hours even on Sundays

David Fischer is a genius in the old school form. He can connect economics, statistics, geology, climatology, archaeology and history in one lesson. No one knows everything, be he comes darn close. His books can be very dry.

so after 4 classes with him, it was not as much fun as it used to be. but he has such a passion for history and the subjects he's talking about that he made it exciting for me. my favorite class was slavery and the civil war.

arrogant ****. yes, he knows much about early america, but he won't accept different opinions. plus, in fire and ice he sometimes said stuff that was plain wrong. be careful, simpy b/c he has a reputation doesn't mean he's a good teacher.
